History of the Mustang Pony
The Mustang Pony is native to North America, descended from Arab and Barb horses of the Spanish settlers. The horses of the settlers strayed and developed into a hardy breed whilst roaming free and were captured by Indians and also popular with the cowboys. The Mustang Pony was crossed with larger breeds to create working horses such as the Quarter Horse, Appaloosa, Pinto and Palomino. The Mustang Pony is now a protected breed following a decline in numbers.
