| As far as I am aware an arab plait is the same as a running plait? This is just like a french plait on a human, except you only take the hair from one side - start at the poll and work back. I used to do these on Stimpy for dressage sometimes as he has a long mane and takes ages to sew plaits in! Only problem was after he had worked in an outline the plait would pull looser from stretching his neck and he'd look like a roman horse with a great big crest! Everyone loved it though - I'll try to get a picture! |

i think i remember the post you're on about Luce, but i can't think for the life of me who posted it.
Will see if my friend is willing to do a step by step for you Loutano. Is there any particular reason why you desperately need to know? |

LOL Whitewash! I wish I had read this before my last dressage show. I didn't have time to do 'normal' plaits so did a running plait on Louis. His mane was fairly short and the plait looked sensational! Very neat line very close to his crest and I was as proud as punch. Off we went to the show, warmed up round and long, and hey presto! First it went all higgledy piggledy along his neck and then started popping open all over the show during our test! So embarrassing! |
My boys - you'll always be in my heart! xxx |

OK, here they are again then, I've dug them out on photobucket
First take three sections of mane from by the poll.

Bring the piece nearest the poll (piece 1) over the middle piece (piece 2)

Next, bring piece 3 over the new middle piece (piece 1)

NOw bring the piece nearest the poll (piece 2) over into the middle (so far, it's the same as a normal plait)

Now bring the piece on the left into the middle - again like you would a normal plait. Don't let go yet!

Then take in a small NEW section of mane, adding it to the piece you've just plaited into the middle

Now plait the piece on the right in the normal way

And plait the piece on the left in the same normal way as before...again, dont' let go until you've added the NEW section of hair to it!

Continue in this way, plaiting as normal from the right and adding small sections when you plait in the left section.

It is essential to adpot a silly concentration face!

I deleted the final stages. Basically you get to the end of the crest where you can't add anymore mane as there\s none left to add. You just do a normal plait with the remaining sections. I'll try to find a finished result picture.
It's one of the hardest things in the world to explain! I hope the pictures make it clearer for you!! It's not a very good one, more of a 5 minute wonder just to keep her hair off her neck in the heat.
When I did the original picture post someone put some lovely pictures up of plaiting half their horse's mane - it was stunning. I have no idea who that was though.
I hope this helps. Lisa |
