Gamble was PTS yesterday, we are unsure of his age but he was atleast 30. He was an ex racer, turned riding horse at the yard I'm on and was loaned out to a lovely girl named Sonya. My OH recieved a phone call at 8.30am yesterday from another of the loan girls begging him to get to there asap as Gamble was down and she couldn't get him up. We rang another of the liveries who is currently looking after the yard whilst the YO is away and she picked him up on the way to the yard. The vet was rang immedietly but the prognosis wasn't good he'd been down all night, sweating and thrashing about and by the time the vet got there he had just given up.
The YO had planned to have him out over summer and enjoy himself and to have him put to sleep before winter. His racing life had taken its toll on him, he was extremely stiff, atheritic (sp?) and his legs were in pretty bad condition. He'd lost alot of weight this winter but was finally starting to look better in himself.
RIP Gambleina (my nickname for him) you will be missed.
