I'm not sure if this is in the right place or not?

I was just wondering what people's thoughts are on travelling a single horse without a partition in a double horse trailer?

I can take the partition out and have a full width breast bar and breach bar. Do horses prefer this or do they like the partition for support, or is it down to individual horses?

Charlie has always loaded well until last weekend when he was awkward to load coming home, he walked straight in going. We aren't aware of anything that upset him but they may feel things different than we do in the car. I was going to practise loading him at home without the partition and then thought, if he prefers it without the partition, I could travel him as such.

Just wondered if anyone else has done this?

Mine has always traveled this way in a trailer.

The bloke's trailer I used had a horse which wouldn't travel any other way - they can splay their legs out and stabilise themselves.

Never had a problem with mine.

the partition is for suport, i would always keep it in, as they lean on it for suport, when going round corners ect

my horse was a fussy loader, so what we did was un-catch the partition and move it over making the space for where the horse walk in em alot bigger and he would load fine, then re clip it back into place once loaded

if its just this one weekend where he was a bit fussy i would just try load him again, he might have just had a off day

but i would always keep it in

I've tried loading him since, he's gone in but with alot of coaxing. I am going to practise loading at the stables a few times each week. x

i would just try moving the partition over from the back end, load him and give him his tea in it ect

over the years we seem to have horses that come to us that wouldnt load, they soon start to load eventually

My friend's horse has only ever travelled by himself in a double trailer without the partition and it's what suits him. Sometime you just gotta do what makes them happy!

My old mare would only travel if she could have a wide space in the horsebox, we couldnt close her in as otherwise she would panic. Same with trailers, she would have to go without a partition or the partition swung over.

If possible, avoid doing it, but you can do it as long as you think the horse will be ok in there. Some rely on the padding to balance more when travelling then standing.

my friends horse will only travel this way and she's fine- goes all over the place like that.
