Hands up whose got one! Full or part bred! :D
I'd love to see some pics of them as we've just got a part bred filly. She's coloured and also has Irish draught/TB in her. I'm just wondering about the weight carrying ability when she matures!
Tell me everything you know!! :cheekywink:

Thanks Rhea - I've owned a pure bred one many years ago called Oscar. He was my first horse and I loved him sooooo much. He was a star (as far as I can remember!) but I was a lot younger of course!:cheekywink:
We've also owned a part bred called Honey Mill, she was sired by Dixi (eventing stallion I think) but sadly broke her leg.
So this is CB number 3 for us! I just hope it all works out! I get so nervous when a new horse joins our family!

She's 27 and she is on the chunkie side but was very overweight in the last photo when I got her three and a half years ago.
We have a CB Stud at the University of Riseholme, Lincoln which was at Caythorpe Agricultural College.

A bit of CB history! We have just sold a pure bred mare & filly. They are wonderful horses albeit very strong willed & you need to be very firm with them. Their history is fascinating -
Cleveland Bays are on the Critical list with only a small amount of purebreds in existence the official number is not clear, however it is believed that there is only an estimated 500 or so in the entire world.
Queen Elizabeth II is a breeder of Cleveland Bay Horses, and when numbers were very low (at that time there were only 4 purebred Cleveland Bay Stallions left in the UK) she purchased a young stallion named Mulgrave Supreme who was supposed to go to America, however Her Majesty stepped in. Her Majesty is the Patron of the Cleveland Bay Horse Society in the UK and without her support over the years, the Cleveland Bay
may not have built back up to the numbers it has now.
You will find Cleveland Bays and Cleveland Bay Sporthorses (which is what Partbred Cleveland Bays are known as) doing a bit of everything and succeeding in the Olympic Disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing, as well as being fantastic horses for Showing in hand and under saddle, Hunting, Stock Work, Adult Rider and Pony Clubs, and even in the Police Force! In the past Cleveland Bays have been used in Cavalry Horse breeding and work as well. The Cleveland Bay "Forest Superman" line is in most successful dressage horses today.
The CB is a brilliant all round horse, which can turn its hoof to anything you, ask of it. They are known for their even temperament, good sound legs and strong well shaped hooves and can quite often get away without the need for shoeing even on harder ground. They are easy to train which also means that they can pick up a bad habit just as easily as a good one so you need to teach them the right way to do something from the beginning. Having said that they are fairly easy to teach the right way if they have a habit you wish to break, just keep repeating the right thing and they
will pick it up pretty quickly.
Purebred Cleveland Bays should always be bay in colour, though there are the occasional chestnut one pop up if the genetics allow. They have little to no white markings, however a bit of ticking through the coat is common in some bloodlines. Partbred Cleveland Bays can be of any colour.

My big mare has a beautiful sleek thin coat in the summer and the winter one is thick and soft like a fluffy teddybear. Its horrid in the spring when she is shedding as she looks like she is going bald. Riseholme have their own breeding programme they don't sell their stock at the moment as they are building up the herd but if in the future they have enough mares and stallions they might. I was going to say about the queens horses but Suzy beat me to it.

My aunts polly is Cleveland bay X ID we think, I will try put some pictures up when photobucket stops playing up!
I found her difficult if im honest, she is a very pretty mare but werent half moody and difficult! A few people have described them 'brutes' to me but I think its polly just being a highly stung mare!
Here she is:
