Doesn't Look where hes going

to put it straight my horse doesn't look where hes going.

when i school him he is always looking around as he does when im hacking out , but when i jump him he is always concentrating and never puts a foot wrong , he is perfect , but if i school him or hack him out he's all over the place.

im not sure what to do:confused:

When your riding, are you asking him to pay attention to you, giving him enough to think about, etc?

The fact he's focused when jumping says that he's probably finding the flatwork uninteresting, so is having a good gawp instead. Try doing more figures, make up shapes in the arena, do lots of transitions. They will help to get his thinking on you, as you will be asking different things of him in quick succession.

yeah , i do alot of different things with him , e.g , figure of eights and serpentines but the just gets distracted, and its really annoying because he just looking and not thinking about what hes doing and stumbles all the time.

Mines exactly the same! :lol: She can't walk in a straight line whilst she looks round either so we drift to wherever she's looking!
Really annoying. I can't stop it on hacks, but have can manage it when schooling by doing lots of transitions and different figures, poles etc

If Saffy's having a blonde day she does exactly the same. I find lots of transitions help. Also if she's really gawping at something I give her a quick tap on the neck and that seems to snap her out of her trance :lol:
