:kiss:As some of you know me and Peerielee bought an Ifor Williams 505 trailer at the beginning of the year. Fab purchase and it looks great for its age, only problem is the paint has really faded a common problem with these trailers.
Ours started of a dark red colour but we are thinking to re-paint it a blue shade.
Have any of you repainted an Ifor Williams, I think this thread has been done before but I cant remember the replies!

If so do you have to sand the surface first to give the new paint a rough surface to grip to?
Should we use primer?
What type of paint should we use?
Should we put a coat of varnish over the top to protect the paint?

Any tips very much appriciated

I take it it's aluminum.

I'd spot prime any areas affected by corrosion. Remove any flaky paint and then give it a coat of metal primer.

Then I'd invest in some vehicle paint, a good quality brand like Masons and use a roller to apply it. You shouldn't need any varnish over that.

Thanks storm, its a mixture of aluminum and wooden coated panels - if that makes sense? The aluminum parts are in great condition but we would like to paint the coloured panels. As vels mum says they have faded and one panel has began to rot due to water, so that will need replacing and rather than replacing the whole lot we would replace the dodgy one, colour match and paint all the rest if that makes sense?

Yes, makes sense. I look forward to seeing the finished product!
