Finn is home now and we are supposed to be starting in earnest with his training. We have been bringing him out of the field and tying him up while we groom him then taking him for a little walk and it has been going ok.... till tonight!
He is usually very good to stand and put on his headcollar but tonight he was tossing his head and rolling his eyes, I said to my daughter that he was obviously on one and there was no point getting in to a battle, so we left him. A bit of the electric fence had come off the pole so she went in to sort it out and he was charging at her! She shouted and waved her arms but he took no notice she had to go through the fence quick to avoid being trampled. Can anyone explain in laymans terms how we go about making him respect our space.

Sounds like he needed to let some steam off, play time! I don't think he meant any harm in it, youngsters do this often.

Do you take him on different routes when you take him out? he might be getting bored of the same thing everyday.

Yes he was gelded about 6 weeks ago and his behaviour improved vastly almost straight away.
I think you are right about wanting to play Rhea that is why I said to leave him alone, but how do you make them realise that galloping full pelt at you is a no-no, or is it just something that they learn as they get older?

Spring does strange things to horses.
Playing or not its best if he doesnt crowd you in the field. I'd usually have a rope with me and either twirl it round or flick it at them just to tell them to back off.
Because you left him he may have just missed the attention so was trying to instigate it of maybe he saw that he "won" a battle so was trying to take it a step further.
