View Full Version : Oscar and Otis BSJA

Last week I decided that as Oscar had not done any show jumping, not even a pole in the arena, that it would be unfair to make him do his BE90RF (British Eventing Intro Regional Final - a qualifier we'd qualified for that runs the final at Badminton in 2010) without having had a jump round a course of a simular hight. I saw Pachesham was running some BSJA and Mum saw and asked me to ride Otis too. I'd not jumped Otis since our Windsor fiasco, but was happy to pop him round a course.

I rang up BSJA and discovered Oscar was not eligable for the BN, he's won too much, but I did not want to pop him round the 1m open as his BE90RF is only 90 - 95cm and I don't like over jumping before a competion as I think it can make them careless over smaller fences. So I entered them both in the BN but Oscar was HC.

Both were stars at the inbetween bits, they're a pleasure to compete togeter, neither fuss or call when you take the other away, easy and quick to warm up and they share a hay net - sooo easy!

Otis had to be ridden first due to Oscar being HC. Typical warm up, flyer 1st fence, me left behind, sooo deep second jump, I'm half way up his kneck... wondering how I'm ever going to tackle a course at this point, a couple more good pops and off to the ring.

Otis was a super, he's a lot of fun to jump providing you're not put off by the sky gazing, head waggling, ride forwards and trust he'll take off! LOL!! Popped round a super clear. Did not tap a pole.

Jumping as if it's 1.05m, not 90!

Something I've been told off for since pony club! Patting before I'm through the finish line!

Then Oscar's 1st round. He warmed up as if the poles were electric, huge hight to everything, taking me into the fences. I was thrilled, he'd not jumped in 6 weeks and previously he'd lost a little confidence due to me plopping off. He was very happy to be out. Over to the ring...... some daft woman was standing in the entrance with her buggy, with small child in, where the horses had to walk to get into the ring, chatting away to 2 other horses, she had no intention of moving, I know Oscars good and he just walked past between buggy and under the other horses noses! All Oscar need to have done to get the child was swish his tail and it would have been in the buggy, let alone spin, rear or kick out!

Anyway his round. He was fantastic, prefect to all 12 fences, seeing his own stride again, keeping a rhythm and listening to me and where my body weight was. Thrilled with him, he went clear. I asked about jumping him off but was told no as he was HC.

If he bent his legs he'd not have to jump so high!!

Out of 20+ there were 8 clears and Otis was 2nd to go in the jumpoff, so had to go for it. 1,4, 5ab, 8, 9 and 10, quite a few fences for a jump off. I like the new BSJA rule, you can now show horses fences and lines. So straight in and rode the line 1 to 4 so Otis knew where we were going, wanted to ride 5b to 8 too but the bell went. Otis assumed llama head position and head waggling comenced. He was super, remembered the turn I'd just ridden, missed the turn inside 9 to get to 5, so wasted time, super through the double, crazy turn to 8, Otis also took off a stride early - i assumed hunting seat position, popped over style and zoomed to the last, how Otis saw it I don't know - he was staring at the sky waggling his ears. LOL.

We lead for ages, but were pipped to second by someone who got the turn from 4 to 5 inside 9.

The flier -

Super happy with both boys.

Anyone spot the rider error on Oscar, same problem but you can't see it as I'm patting him?! I'm hoping he jumps as well next Tuesday.

Thank you for looking. X

Thank you all.
Yep - I lost my stirrup on Oscar over the penultimate and could not get it back for the last fence. I've got new sytnthetic leathers, super as they don't stretch but the sirrups just hang straight rather than on leathers the stirrup tends to stay hanging at righ angles so you can just slide your foot back in.

Mungo Madness - Oscar, should he be naughty next Tuesday at his BE90RF, will be be left in the front field with the main gate open, he's good load, I'll leave his travel boots on and you'll be welcome to him. LOL!!
