Hiya,

A good friend of mine has moved her horse up to livery with me (yay, I have someone else to ride out with me!) She used to keep her mare at the place I bought Taran from.

She told me Taran's old owner was chatting about him after the ex-owner found out she was moving her mare to where Taran was being kept.

He told my friend that Taran was gelded when he shut down the trekking centre and was selling off his horses! So Taran was about 12 years old when he was gelded!!!! No wonder he has stallion tendancies when mares are around! When I bought Taran, his ex-owner said he had used him as a stallion but I didn't think to ask when he was gelded. They have apparently quite a few of his off-spring still on the farm!

Taran although doesn't 'look' particularly 'Stallion like' (ie, big neck, chest etc) but I think this was due to his poor condition - he looks more stallion like now!

Just really interested me!

Bek xx

You are very lucky to find out more information about Taran. Its very interesting.

I know where Darli has been since he was six but I have been trying to trace his breeder in Essex. All I have is the name of her cottage and that she registered him with the BSPS when he was four. I gave the BSPS a letter to send to her as they had her address but I never got a reply so I dont know whether they sent it or whether she has moved! Chance was with her breeder in Ireland all her days until she came to us as an eight year old so I know her history too.

Am only saying what I have been told. It maybe complete cow-pats. He was used as the trek leader's horse. If you came and met him he is very, very good ridden and handled even when mares are around. It's just in the field he acts like a 'stallion'. I am only going on what I have been told by his ex-owner.

Very interesting!! It could explain why he's so gorgeous, no wonder they wanted to use him!
