Look on dragon driving, there's a bay mare with white colt foal at foot. She's bay so it cant be a double dilute, i supose it could be a maximum sabino/overo. It really does look white?

Are you meaning is the foal a LWS foal?

LWS foal's are born with an incomplete digestive tract, and die within a few days if they arent put to sleep beforehand. It sadly isnt possible to have a walking 'white' foal as it is a lethal genetic fault.
The foal probably got some sort of cremello gene.

in the pictures it looks to be pure white so in theory it should be dead. I'd love to see it in person.

i know - mum doesnt look to be carrying a dilution gene? and to be cremello he would have to get it off both mum and dad

There can be dominant cremellos born who look 'white'
The hooves have a darker pigmenting, and the photographs are over exposed, so no in theory it shouldnt be dead as it isnt a lethal overo carried foal. The foal also has dark eyes. LWS foals are born with very pale blue eyes.
If the mare isnt carrying a large spot somewhere, then the foal is most likely to come from Perlino lines, which would come from a bay parent.

Dilutes arnt recesive though and the mare doesnt look to be carrying one. To be perlino or cremello he would have to get one off each parent. He's obviously NOT white because he would be dead but it would be interesting to see him properly.

She could have it anywhere on her. Photos are hard to go by. :)

Actually i can see a belly splash on her so he could be a maximum sabino, but even so its unusuall to see one without some markings like a cap or bonnet

I am really interested in colour genetics. Last year on the moor they put out a cremello stallion. Most of the foals this year are coloureds. Will a cremello always throw coloureds to a solid mare?

Coloureds - as in broken coloureds?
The creme gene is a dilution gene, it doesnt produce pattern (as in broken coloureds) but dilutes the existing base colour. ie - chesntuts to palomino and bays to dun. A cremello has x2 dilution genes so is guaranteed to pass on one of them to its offspring. If there are lots of coloureds being born then he could ALSO carry one of the broken coloured genes but it may not be immediatly obvious as cream patches on white wont be very clear.

I think it's more likely he's a maximum sabino then a dilute.

why dont you email asking info on the stallion? would be interesting if they've got a pic and any genuine buyer would be asking for that aswell so wont sound nosey hehe.

Why shouldn't a white foal survive?

Rhea; Foals born with the Lethal White Syndrome are born with incomplete digestive systems, especially the large intestine. It's a fault of the genetic match, luckily it isnt that common and can be prevented by genetic testing before mating horses who are most likely to breed a foal such as that, so it can be avoided.
