Just wondering if this happens often? Ive been very lucky as I bought 2 of my horses without viewing first but it was love at first sight with both!
Turk was bought from my RI's father so I knew what was described of him would be spot on and Vel.....I viewed his sister who I fell in love with but unfortunately she didnt pass the vetting.

Anyway there must be owners out there who have had trouble bonding with their horse?

I had trouble bonding with Melissa my old pony, she was such a nervy pony and i wasnt confident around horses and her and Candy we my first two horses and i wasnt into them and they brought into liking them, Melissa was never ever a kids first pony, we brought her as a companion to Candy but the more confident i got the closer we got. Unfortunately when Candy went i distanced myself from her as Candy going was painful which i sort of regret.

I never bonded with Harry because he had some serious issues.. I wish I could have mended him but I know sending him back was the only option really. He was lovely but I didn't cry when he was loaded up onto the horsebox to go back to his old owners yard - so in my head and heart I don't think he would have ever been MY horse. They say a chestnut only truly loves once and I just don't think I was ever going to be his true love owner! xx

To be honest, I'm not sure if I have or not? I couldn't tell you what bonding felt like? Don't get me wrong, I love my boys and they will never go anywere!

Those are all really difficult situations, I say ive bonded with all my horses but I prob never did with my first Connie. She was very flightly, young, arab x and I was only 9 yrs old.
If I had her now I would have more understanding of her issues and would have handled them differently.

I had one horse that literally could not give a crap if you were there or not, no idea why but it really didnt care about people, which with the way i keep my horses, at home, almost free range, is a little odd, he turned out to be a total ******* anyway and got sold, he was a right little **** and not being nice and friendly on the ground either didnt help his case

Storm and I had a brilliant bond which I know I can never repeat with another horse or pony. It was as if we read each other's minds, so spooky.
It took me a while to bond with Becky as she is not a people pony. I have to admit though that she is changing slowly but she likes her own space.
I just can't bond properly with Montana and am not sure if we will ever bond lol.

To be honest my horse has made the bonding process difficult! Hes not a cuddly horse unless u want to get bitten/head butted/kicked, but we get on much better when i ride him. Most people think he must be a naughty horse to ride because of how he can be on the ground but hes the total opposite and will do whatever i ask of him. He just knows once im on the ground hes a lot bigger and stronger than i am!

I get quite a few coming through (obviously) and some of them i instantly have a connection with and love to work with. Others, i couldn't give too hoots about and we just clash. That doesn't mean he doesn't get the care and attention, but there are some that come in and will allways just go straight out again without a second glance.

Sparky was one of them but Scooby was one i bonded with. Trigger i wouldn't say i have bonded with but i really like him and want the best for him. Mum bonded with TJ and really badly with Echo. I didn't bond with him but again i really liked him.

I have bonded with Riff but nothing is as strong as what i have with Merry and Hazel.

It was very, very difficult with Flambards - we had a long road to getting along because he's very aloof and doesn't care what you do (good or bad) and just "tolerated" me for the longest time. We did get there eventually though because I put in the effort to really make things work eventually.

Domino was easy to bond with, it was instant with him, and I love him to death.

Ollie tolerated me up until I began to work him. Once we started to work together more intensely (not just potteriing around the lanes on a headcollar) he became more attentive and interested. It was as if once he realised I had guidance to offer, I was worth bothering with! I had to earn my privledges!

No I didn't bond with Kezzie at all. I tried soooo many things but she just didn't like anybody! She had never been mistreated in her life but she still would flatten her ears and swish her tail whenever anyone came into her stable. I enjoyed riding her though and absolutely loved every minute I spent looking after her, despite her face-pulling, so although we didn't have a special bond as such, it still worked!
