I took my little old man over to the yearly show at the village down the road this morning to just do the in hand veteran class. I plaited him up last night, but he’d managed to roll and get hay and straw in them by this morning!! So I had to redo a few.
A friend had said she would take us in her lovely lorry and they loaded well considering Ivan takes about an hour to get onto a trailer! He whacked my hand into the side of the lorry as he got stressed before Guy got in, so that’s nice and swollen now!
We arrived early so we were waiting for a while before going in, and then when we got in the class was so big they had to split it 20 and under, and then 21 +, so I was in the second class. When we went in there were nine in our class and some of them looked great, so I was preparing myself to not even get placed. I spoke to the judge and told her he was 37 and she said ‘I suppose he’s not in work anymore’ and seemed surprised that he was! So we were set walking round again and I could not believe it when my number was called in first! The judge seemed to take into account age in relation to condition which hasn’t been the case in some other veteran classes I’ve seen. He was the oldest by quite a few years!
Then when we walked out a few people came over and said they’d heard how old he was and they were hoping we’d win as he looked so good! I’m so happy with him; he behaved really well and has now qualified for the Chiltern and Thames Championship!
It’s typical that it’s the one time I didn’t have my camera on me, so no pictures I’m afraid! I’m just happy the whole thing ran smoothly!
