I posted a while ago asking about loaning experiences. Just wanted to be a bit more specific and ask if anyone has ever loaned a riding school horse/pony, or know anyone who has etc.
I'm just curious to how it works generally. I know each place will be slightly different. But in terms of price/ how often people would go up to the yard (is it all DIY etc?) Just looking for any general experiences really!

I did, it was a good experience for me at the time as was my first loan horse

I paid £21 a week plus shoes and I had to be up there every evening and all day saturday and sunday, and all day through the holidays, not only doing my horse but helping out with the rs horses that werent on loan, tacking up, leading in lessons etc. Some days I had 10+ horses to muck out!

I didnt have to go up in the morning, but all mucking out was mine to do when I got there in the evening anyway.

I wouldnt do it now, but at the time I loved it, and it was my life and my social life, kept me busy and I wouldnt have had it any other way!

We used to take one of the RC ponies every winter, we would have to find a suitable field for it to live in with adiquite shelter/stabling, pay for all feed and vet fee's if it was an injury (if it was an long term health issue RC would cover it). It was mainly Shetties we had so it was pretty straight forward and we would obviously have its tack and grooming kit.
If I remember correctly RC would pay for one shoeing/trim then after that it was up to us to pay for any further hoof care.

I did and had a similar set up to Lube. I paid £10 a week, had two lessons a week for that, and had to help around the RS. So, mucking out in the morning, pulling down beds in the afternoon, tacking up, leading in lessons, as I got more experienced and became one of the older ones I'd help organise the younger girls around the yard, make feeds, help customers...Basically, there was never more then one member of staff on the yard if that, and the group of us basically ran the yard. I was up from 8:30-6 on a Sunday and straight up after school on a Thursday. As for the horse, I groomed and looked after him as much as I could, cleaned tack, basically his basic welfare was in my hands. Kinda hard when you are only up twice a week but that's the way it was! It was brilliant experience for me, but I wouldn't do it again.
