I was absolutely fine yesterday, had a ride and felt very balanced and comfortable and was fine after that too.

This morning I struggled to get out of bed because the sciatica was back and its been painful all day! I can't really have any time off work as its Quarter End and I have far too much to do...... which means I can't take my anti-inflammatories because they knock me out.....grrrr!!

Pointless post but just wanted to have a rant!

Oh no Tracey! Thats awful. Would Ibuprofen not help, that shouldn't be strong enough to knock you out. Get well wishes from me and my gang x

Sit on the bottom of your bed with the mattress tucked up behind yours knees, slowly lay back with your arms stretched above your head as through you are reaching for the headboard! It should stretch your spine out and re-align your muscles and joints and release whatever is getting caught!
Told to me by an oesteopath!

Thanks Sarah, will give ibuprofen a try but I'm such a lightweight with medication. Because I never take anything when I do, it really seems to affect me:sad-no:

Fairyfeet - many thanks - going to give that exercise a try.

:D

Oh no, I know how horrible this is, what I find helps me is laying flat on the floor (if I can actaully get down there, usually in tears) then bring my knees up to my chest, or as far as I can get them and hold for a few seconds and repeat a few times, it seems to ease it for a while.

Or laid down in the same position but with knees up but feet on the floor, then try to keep my shoulders and back flat and keeping knees together, try to slowly move my legs from one side to the other as far as my hips will go, it does seem to release whatevers nipping/pinching in the bottom of my back (sorry I'm really bad as explaining what I mean)

Also a TENS machine sometimes helps me, depending on how bad it is, tablets don't seem to have any effect whatsoever on me.

Would be best to go see the doctor though and see if they will refer to you a physio or something.

I hope you find something to help it soon.

I agree with Sarah-try Ibuprofen should help and shouldn't knock you out! Or you can get Voltarol ointment to rub on if you don't want to take tablets (its another anti inflammatory)Hope you are better soon)

Thanks everyone for your good advice. I've been doing the exercises and lots of stretching and I think its helping....... so I decided to ride tonight!!! Struggled to get my leg over and the ride wasn't very comfortable which I'm sure rubbed off on Chip because he felt a bit unbalanced too. BUT, I think my back feels a little better since I've ridden :D Had a nice hot jacuzzi bath when I got home so feeling much more comfortable at the moment.

What is sciatica? So sorry your not too good, hope you get better soon.

it's an inflammation or other 'damage' to your sciatic nerve, which runs from the small of your back to your foot ... it's excruciatingly painful, and causes a multitude of affects from the small of your back down, numbness, stabbing pains, 'electric shock' type pains, spasms in your back, a sensation like you're standing on broken glass ...

I've suffered on and off with sciatica for years, and recently it's stopped me riding a few times. Standing up or laying flat and stretching seems to help
