Hi, im in a bit of a tricky situation and could do with some advice. I have a 5yr old 14.2 cob x gelding. Ive had him nearly 4 yrs now and hes always been a bit of a bully lol, and has always had a problem with being lead from his shoulder, he refuses to be lead when you walk by his shoulder and will rear up and refuse to walk forward making it hard work to catch him off the field or lead him anywhere away from the yard, hes also prone to napping. Recently when i tryed leading him he went to rear but i stopped it so he decided to bite me instead, so now its just going too far and im starting to get upset with the way hes acting. Hes fine to ride but does have the occasional nap when he sees other horses in the field or doesnt want to do something, he also refuses to lung and rears up when hes asked to lung and will come at you rather than go round in a circle. Hes never!! been roughly handled since i bought him, i dont know about his past but if anything im prob too much of a soft touch. I have also tryed most of the natural horsemanship methods, which have worked on all the other horses ive worked with. He doesnt share a field with any horses so im starting to think maybe hes just trying to be the dominant horse and show me hes the boss, but id like some advice on how to get him to respect me more and lead better. if you have any tips please share them :)

It does sound like he's trying to be dominant over you. How do you lead him? What things have you tried and/or used on him?

I can only describe it as the correct way of leading a horse really, ive used a basic headcoller, bridle and dually halter, but nothing seems to make a difference, he does lead slightly better for my dad who is stronger than me but he still puts up a fight if he can get away with it, its almost as if hes not enjoying it therefore he doesnt want to do it so he trys to refuse, hes always has a nap in him since we bought him usually around other horses like thats the only place he wants to be, and he only really enjoys hacking out with horses.
