Took a few pics this morning of the horses, we got our round bale and bale holder pen yesterday.
Horses and sheep seem very happy with the ad-lib hay idea and have already made a great start in
eating it!!
Vel with his snuggyhood and hoody rug, was down to 1 degree last night so made sure the horses were snug!

Little Miss Dollie

Pulled her forelock the other day, looks scruffy as her mane is still long and comes forward. It was down to her nostrils!!

I know Turk is overweight but at 26 and on only a handful of speedibeet and ponynuts a day what can I do?? His belly is big but
all other parts of him are fine, no apple bum or crest etc.

Fab photo's hun. Vel is looking super.

Don't worry about Turk, at his age better that he goes into winter with a little bit weight on, I'm sure he'll lose it over the winter, Zeb always does.

And I LOVE Dollie's polka dot rug!! Gotta get me one of those!

they all look nice and cosy. I can't get over how chilly it is with you at the mo.
Your horses are so lucky to have such a stunning view from their fields.

No they all have a stable and are actually in tonight as its pelting down, windy and freezing!!!!!

Think Vel wanted the hay bale in with him, he looked pretty disgruntled to be back to haynets lol

That horse could eat for Britain!

good god that cold already?!?!? :sad-no: that is so not right!!

your ponies look fab! i think with turk - his belly looks big but some of that will be due to his back dipping slightly with age making his tummy look worse then it is.

hes far from fat so i wouldnt worry, and at his age, let him be more fatter then leaner in winter as its harder to keep weight on an older horse in winter. xx

Thanks for comments, I always think Turk is really overweight but I suppose his back dipping is a reason. He certainly isnt greedy and doesnt get a lot of hard feed.

I don't think Turk looks fat at all. He looks to have a bit of a grass belly but it's probably his back as so-n-so says, as you say he's not carrying fat elsewhere.
You have very lovely horses! :)

Brr, thats cold! They all look snuggly in their lovely rugs though!!
They all look really well.
I had an equine science lecture on conformation the other day and a practical on the yard after. One of the horses we had to assess was an ex badmintion horse who was 21 i think...he has a dropped belly like Turk but when our lecturer pushed his belly upwards to where it should be he looked just right, its mainly due to the muscles in their back not being as good as they used to - was really amazing to see!! This old lad also looked about a hand higher when she did it!
