you dont need anything to buy and sell on but talking to a few people who are already established woudl be a good idea and they can advise you on the steps to take to prevent being sued or done for misrepresentation, in the current climate its not a good idea to start up any new bussiness though particuarly buying and selling

I too have been thinking of doing this.
I have an appointment with an advisor on the first of june and hopefully they can point me in the right direction.......when I was working before having my little boy I was only earning about £2,000 per year so it doesn't really matter if I can only do about 4 horses in a year that should easily cover my wages from work even after taking out all the overheads.

Not sure now, but you didn't used to need.

Obviously you need to be Self Employed or set up a business to keep the tax-man happy, and all the correct insurance is a must, but I don't think you need a licence as such. :)

Good luck with the plan. :)

I *think* it depends on how many horses will be passing through your hands. I got a feeling if you are selling under 10 per year then no you don't need to be licensed as such but if it's over 10 per year then I think you do have to have some sort of license.

I might be totally wrong but for some reason, I do think you need something if you are selling over 10horses per year.

Sasca would be a good person to talk to on this. She isn't a dealer but she's very knowledgeable on the topic :)
