So we went hunting this morning, we were warned it would be a slow meet as a lot of crops hadn't been harvested yet.

Got there, unloaded and got on, met the master and went off, started off very slow with a lot of standing around. Apparently I was white as a sheet!! I tend to go very pale and quiet when nervous and everyone could tell something was up :ashamed:

However it soon became apparent that between standing around we were going to be going at quite a fast pace... We popped several logs, but they all had a way around if you didn't want to jump. That said, we soon got to a bank with no way around- and it didn't have much of a run up either so a lot of horses were jumping from walk or standstill :ashamed: Freebs took a good 5 or 6 trys to get up and over the bank, in the end we were the penultimate people over the bank out of 50 or so horses!!

Had an amazing gallop over a huge stubble field, I've never been so fast in my life but the adrenaline was racing through my body and we overtook so many people!!

We called it a day after about 2 1/2 hours and hacked back to the lorry, had to negotiate the bank again going the other way, Freebs jumped it first time much to my surprise and landed funny on the other side, cue me hanging round his neck, arse in the air, lots of people thought I was a faller but I managed to stay on somehow!! (Still got 3/4 of a point though, would have been a whole point if I had fallen- we are tallying up how many of us fall off this season; a fall is 1 point, then various 1/2 and 3/4 points awarded- I also got a half point as Freebs tripped spectacularly- you could see us cantering along this track from the other side of the hedge then all of a sudden we disappeared, everybody thought we had fallen but we were fine :D. So I'm currently leading on 1.25 points, woop!!)

So in all had an absolutely fantastic day, well worth getting up at 5.20am for and will hopefully be going again next week!! If anybody is thinking about hunting this year that hasn't done it before, DO IT! It's so much fun and everybody is so friendly

God you're brave! I hate cantering in groups even in an arena let alone flying round the countryside at god knows what speeds!! I'll stick to dressage methinks :D

I have to admit I was beginning to think "omg what have I let myself in for" when we were standing around at the beginning, but after the first really decent canter we got in the swing of things!!

Never did I think I would have the confidence to hunt- with Ebony I was a nervous wreck- 1 year ago just cantering around a field with 1 other horse would have scared the living daylights out of me. Today we galloped through a field with 40 or so other horses, and I would have never attempted the bank normally especially with so many people watching!! I guess the adrenaline rush kicked in and we were fine.

I have to say though, you do need balls of steel for thing hunting lark... there isn't much time to turn round and say "nah I can't do that!", it's a case of shut your eyes and kick on!! SO much fun! :D
