So we went hunting this morning, we were warned it would be a slow meet as a lot of crops hadn't been harvested yet.
Got there, unloaded and got on, met the master and went off, started off very slow with a lot of standing around. Apparently I was white as a sheet!! I tend to go very pale and quiet when nervous and everyone could tell something was up :ashamed:
However it soon became apparent that between standing around we were going to be going at quite a fast pace... We popped several logs, but they all had a way around if you didn't want to jump. That said, we soon got to a bank with no way around- and it didn't have much of a run up either so a lot of horses were jumping from walk or standstill :ashamed: Freebs took a good 5 or 6 trys to get up and over the bank, in the end we were the penultimate people over the bank out of 50 or so horses!!
Had an amazing gallop over a huge stubble field, I've never been so fast in my life but the adrenaline was racing through my body and we overtook so many people!!
We called it a day after about 2 1/2 hours and hacked back to the lorry, had to negotiate the bank again going the other way, Freebs jumped it first time much to my surprise and landed funny on the other side, cue me hanging round his neck, arse in the air, lots of people thought I was a faller but I managed to stay on somehow!! (Still got 3/4 of a point though, would have been a whole point if I had fallen- we are tallying up how many of us fall off this season; a fall is 1 point, then various 1/2 and 3/4 points awarded- I also got a half point as Freebs tripped spectacularly- you could see us cantering along this track from the other side of the hedge then all of a sudden we disappeared, everybody thought we had fallen but we were fine :D. So I'm currently leading on 1.25 points, woop!!)
So in all had an absolutely fantastic day, well worth getting up at 5.20am for and will hopefully be going again next week!! If anybody is thinking about hunting this year that hasn't done it before, DO IT! It's so much fun and everybody is so friendly
