Yep, yep, the day had come where that Mairi and I were to become rivals!
I'd entered the ITC and Prelim 12 (eek! First one since a disasterous attempt a couple of years ago!)
I'd only sat on Icarus once in the last two week, so i wasnt expecting anything special. I havent even been able to lunge him or walk him in hand because of the snow and ice. I went a good hour early and spent aaages warming him up. He felt really really... average. He was doing everything i asked (occasionally with a grunt and buck) but if felt like i had to nag him all the way.
After a looong warm up i entered the ITC. He pootled about, felt dead to the leg, felt like he wasnt listening. I sort of thought we'd blown it but i was a bit meh cos i havent done anything with him for ages, so it's not like it's his fault! Hung around to find out we'd only gone and blummin well won it! With a whopping 75%! I think he must have looked much MUCH better than he felt!

Only had about 15 mins to wait until our stab at prelim. I wasnt expecting anything special here either. There are some fab horses that come out of the woodwork all of a sudden and make you feel a bit like you're riding a scruffy little kids pony against all the warmbloods and thoroughbreds that just float about (maybe thats because i WAS riding a scruffy pony, but thats beside the point! ).
Went into the ring thinking 'no pressure, not going to come anywhere special, we'll be lucky to get placed' so i was enjoying myself just pootling about. Icarus felt absolutely exhausted. Three weeks of little to no excercise, a big fluffy coat and quite a bit of schooling for over an hour make one very tired boy! Finished the test and untacked and went back to watch some more.
Got called over by the organisers, the wanted to know whether i'm a member of the BHS. I said no, and they said "join! You should, you're eligable for our £200 bursary prize for the people with top points in prelim" i was a bit sort of 'why me?' then i saw that i was placed 2nd! With 62.80%!
