Our local show ground is going to run a derby this year, Ive heard they are planning to have a small bank, and I've heard of a derby bank but is it just show jumping with mixed style fences? Sorry it's a dumb question :o

I think it just comes from Hickstead Derby and they try to emulate the style of fences in that - mainly by having a bank but also other more 'natural' style fences like ditches/water so that it is almost like some XC jumps. I don't know if that type of jumping course was called a Derby before the Hickstead one!

The derby is almost a bit like mixed show jumping corss coutnry working hunter, thats why the hickstead derby has more like solid fences ditches and uneven ground so its almost like short knockable down corss country but not necessarily all natural fences

Thanks S&W that's great, I'd love to have a go at that but Zeb's owner is not a fan of fixed jumps so I'd only be able to do it if they are all knockdownable (and not any higher than 2ft obviously )
