Urghhhh this little pony!

So once again, the mounting starts, although this time it's started on a mare.

He started it 2 years ago as a dominance thing with Spud that didnt get him very far, but he's got through the fencing by pushing one of my posts down, got in with Spider and has been trying to mount her :ashamed:

Soo as we speak Jase is dragging the little *** in, and im going to check if he was fully gelded or not, just incase. I have his castration sheet which does say both were removed so i highly doubt he is a rig or a false rig, he's just being a bit of a pain

I'd like to put him on a supplement for the winter to try and calm him down a little, so any gelding/rig hormone calmers you've fed i'd like to hear about them please!! I'll most likely be using the global herbs one as ive had most success with that, just wondering if theres any others out there!

:D

Ive used the global herbs one before and it seemed to do the trick. I didnt know anyone else made them tbh!!

Its been recommend "Moody Mare" Calmer for rigs, not sure if this actually works because I've never tried it but ts supposed to work well for rigs.

Are you going to have him blood tested to see if he actually is a rig? Has the mare been with you long? It could just be a faze because shes new and hes had no female contact for a while.

My friend uses Regumate on her stallion, it works but it is pricey

He's always been next door to mares, yup the mare has been there quite awhile. He's actually escaped into fields with this mare and 2 others and never been a problem up until today

Im going to check him over in a bit but i do remember he had both testicles removed. If there is a bit of tissue remaining then it could be causing the testosterone, or it could be coming from somewhere else in his body [glands] which if i had him tested for both it could bring up positive and negative results, which wouldnt really help

Local vets dont impress me at all so id rather work my way up, as i need to get jabs done, more bute at some point for Scottie and get Rowans ear looked at, so blood tests can wait for a little!

It's quite likely to be him either trying it on for dominance, or some part of him is still feeding him testosterone, if a calmer doesnt work then i will most likely get both tests done on him, but for now i'll give a calmer a shot as i know roughly what the problem might be!

I didn't know you could tell by just looking at where their bits used to be, Is it true that most male horses carry 3 testies, one thats very far up but you wouldn't know unless you where operating on them? I heard this someone (must have been a vet)

It would be by feeling, incase only one was removed at the time [despite it says both on his paperwork] If he is a true rig, then he will most likely be holding one in his abdomen, which would be impossible to feel from the outside. Also to check theres no lump in any tissue left there [compare to Spud who does look almost like a stallion as he had a poor castration done, leaving him still with the entire sack in full shape, when it should have shrunk]

No, all male animals have 2 testes?

you just need a mare to give him a good kick in the chest, sometimes puts even proper boys off, naughty pony

With his record i'd rather not risk more injuries

Hehe, sorry no advice here but perhaps we should put Bob and Rowan in the field together and they can bonk themselves silly :D!!

Thank you for the suggestions guys - I will be passing these onto our Bob's owner as he is a horsy little blighter too! xx
