View Full Version : How would you react...

...if you went to the yard one day and there was a letter pinned to the gate asking if anyone needed any help exercising their horse, or offering to muck out etc in exchange for rides, or asking if anyone needed a sharer?
Would you consider it or do you think that if you wanted that, you'd put up an advert for a sharer?

I think its just the same as any wanted advert. I found Magsy through a wanted advert, I would say go for it! Sometimes people aren't strictly thinking of something, or they have it in the back of their minds, and this might just push them in the direction!

To the gate, id be a bit suspicious..
Unless you ring around a few liveries and either give them details over the phone to ask around/put a notice up or take a notice and ask if they would put it up?
Me personally id only get a sharer through asking for one myself, but thats just me being picky. Being at the livery i used to be at, there was a lot of people looking for someone else to ride their poor beasts!

I think its a great idea if they have a notice board or something like that, I know my yard does. xx

I wouldn't judge till i had at least spoken with them. I could always do with a helper and after a 6 month advert being up, iv finally got someone who unfortunately come once a week. Would welcome it if it was genuine.

As long as the note wasn't in private territory, or even public territory but out of the way (ie. the person had been snooping), I would jump at the chance! At least it means the person is nearby, unlike every other Wanted ad I see. Where Vinny is kept somebody could easily see him if they walked along the road past his field. And I always think there's no harm in asking is there!

i think it would be good, often there are people out there who havent considered having a bit of help a few times a week but could really do with it, its worth a shot anyway

I would consider it, i see nothing wrong with asking in this way at all, in fact i would do it myself if i were looking :D

If I did it, I would like, tie it to the front gate, as otherwise I'd have to go in to the actual yard to put it somewhere!!
Hmm I'm still not sure :S

I think it's a really good idea.
I know there's a girl around me who's posted posters up along bridle paths looking for work with horses, so livery yards would work just aswell. I'd ask permission from the owner first though - some places are a bit touchy.

But I can't ask the owners permission as I don't know who the owner is, or what the yards called, or the number, or the address....?

i think it's worth a try, as long as you aren't snooping round..

Its probably some horse mad girl desperate to be involved with horses, but can't afford their own. If I could do with the help, I would phone them

Give it a try. The worst that can happen is that you'll get no response. Someone might be looking for a sharer, or an occasional pair of hands, but not bother to put up an ad, or not know who to ask.

In all seriousness, i thinkyou should go for it, if you dont ask you dont get!

I'm not currently wanting a sharer/helper but if I was I'd definately give them a call.
I'd want to "vet" them before I agreed to anything but I would do exactly the same with someone that responded to an advert I put out myself.
Can always give it a go :)

I too would think it a great idea. Someone willing enough and keen enough to do that would be worth a go I think. If you were looking for a sharer that is.
