My horse Tilly had an op on Thursday and will be at the vets for at least a week. I couldn't wait to see her and went on Friday feeling very nervous but excited! She was a lot brighter than I expected and really relaxed when I arrived (she really doesn't like being in.)
Then when I went out of her stable she obviously thought I'd come to take her home and she got upset, started to weave really badly and was begging with her front legs to come out. Apparently she didn't settle after I'd gone and they had to give her ACP as they were worried about the pressure she was putting on her poorly foot by weaving and box walking :(
Apparently before she saw me she was absolutely fine, really settled, eating everything in sight and she'd not been weaving at all.
So I've decided to stay away as much as I can, but I feel so mean not seeing her and it's so hard to stay away :sad-no: Am I doing the right thing??

Probably a week, I'm not sure yet as it depends on how it is healing (she had part of her hoof wall removed and a keratoma taken out) :(
It's so awful not being able to see her :(

its better that your upset than she is, your probably better staying away and letting her get some r&r and just ringing the vet to check she is ok maybe have a friend go check her if you wanted she might not get as stressed if she doesnt see you but you know she has gotten some love and cuddles
we have a horse injured at work at the moment, appart from the owner being a complete idiot and annoying we wish she would pee off cause the horse gets so stressed when she is around when the rest of the time he is good as gold, it does him no good her being around ******* about with him
what the hell is a keratoma? is it like a heamotoma?

You're so right... rather me upset than her.
The keratoma is a rare benign tumour of the keratin producing cells in her hoof wall. Probably caused by a trauma within the hoof (she had an abscess exactly where the keratoma was back in May.)
I've never heard of it before either but luckily my vets have an MRI machine which picked it up. It had grown fairly big and was pressing on her pedal bone :(

If I was you I'd stay away so that she can heal as quickly as possible and that way come home asap. I know it's hard but at least you know what's going on whereas she's probably a bit confused and distressed. Hope she gets better soon!

Stay away - as much as it'll hurt you to do so..... she'll recover far more quickly.... then when she's home again - you can make it up to her..... bless !!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!

You are doing right staying away as her recovery has to come first above your own personal feelings. It really is best for her for you to stay away from what you've said. I'm sure the vets won't mind you ringing each day to check on her progress though.

I do agree, better for her to stay away. Out of interest where is she?

Thanks for the advice everyone, I rang the vets at tea time. They are really happy with her, the farrier has put her a hospital plate on today and she's managed all day without any ACP. So fingers crossed she's settled down again.
CE - she's at my vets Hird & Partner's in Shelf. They have a surgery, MRI machine and stables there and fortunately it's only about 20 mins from me.
