View Full Version : marked down for a splint?

As mo has a splint im very wary of taking her to a show yet due to the fact that she could get marked down alot due to it.
it has gone down alot lately but if you look you can see it there.
should i bother taking her to shows this year or leave it?
will it just be minimal marks lost for it providing her movement is not affected?
thanks guys. x

I think a lot depends on the judge. I'm assuming your only talking about local shows? If the horse goes well in every other way then i dont think a small splint should overly affect a horse at local level though some judges may put more importance on it than others.
Showing is supposed to be fun, i'd just get out there and see how it goes.

It will go against you as it is a belmish. However it is only a small part of the animals confromation and you still have the ride etc to contribute. And some judges find them more offensive than others.

Like others have said it depends on the judge. when i used to show clip he qualified for the british arab championships with splints :) but then at another show got placed below a horse that dished :?

ditto the others. It totally depends on the judges even at local shows xx

Ive looked after a few horses that have gone to HOYS and have splints and windgalls, so although it might mark her down with some judges it doesnt matter to others and there is more than just a splint that contributes to her final placings, also i find some local judges cant even spot one anyway, one of mine had a huge splint accompanied with a few small scars, no idea how she did it, and we still won at local level

thanks guys, i hope they will be too blinded by her pretty face to notice it!!
it doesnt affect her and she moves very well, the last judge who saw her just came over to me and said 'nice, very very nice' :D so maybe even if she gets marked down her movement will up the scores a little.. xxx
