View Full Version : Terrible two's (and a half!)

I'm not sure if it is the spring grass or what but for the past few days Echo has been a pain in the proverbial!
He's been very argumentative during my handling of him, and has started shaking his head and squealing at me while leading and out of the field.
I'm pretty strict with him and when I told him off tonight he reared up a bit in defiance.
We went through this, although 100 times worse, just before he was cut. There's been no change in routine and he's getting a handful of chaff in the morning and that's it.
Is this a normal stage of development? He's started in very light work, ie long reining now and then, etc and he's pretty good when he's working (so far)....
Could it be the spring grass or is he just testing me out again???

Bit of both I expect. He's at the teenager stage now and likely to test the boundaries yet again.
Freya was a right b**** when she was 2 but has quietened down a lot now she's aprroaching 4

I'm much more confident with handling him when he's like this now - (sigh) another phase!!

Just before backing I do remember row went thru a stage where he shot forward and jogged a bit wen leading in from the field and had the odd buck wen lunging and was nibbly but 2bh was pretty quiet and didn't really change that much. Saying that, he is even more quiet now he is nearly 4, I didn't even think that was possible! Lol.

Echo has always been very confident in himself....I think he's just trying it on again. He gets slapped down pretty quickly!!
Maybe he needs more work - he might be getting a bit bored

Its the grass, I have seen a massive change in mine the last week.
They all have a little wobble now and again not just 2yrs olds! I wouldn't be worried about it.

They do seem to have a terrible two stage, kizzie was a right little so and so at two, used to wind up my other horse run behind me and then rear up at her, she got a rigth stroppy bitch

Brego is doing this at the moment, I think its a combination of spring grass and him maturing and testing his boundaries! I really wish he wouldn't, he bit me today for the first time ever. Now doing a lot of groundwork to re-establish my authority as he is too big to be messing around!
