Before anyone shouts at me I DIDN'T KNOW! (56-61 adjustable)
Anyway my o/h brought me one for my birthday, obviously I had to try it on.
Now, it sorta looks like a bike helmet, its shiny black, it fits perfect, is comfortable and has air vents BUT I keep thinking is it safe enough? I am debating about selling in on, the only thing I don't like about it is its HUGE and it looks it :o

if the hat box or hat has a the current standard written on it, not sure what the number is but it will start PAS and i think BEN and has a kite mark then it is up to standard and is the same standard as any other hat on the market

My kids have them, they only walk round on the lead occasionally, and I wasnt going to spend a massive amount on riding hats whilst they are growing when they are not regular riders. I am glad I didnt spend loads because Zoe has only used hers 2x and Rose probably about 4x since I bought them last summer....

Sam has one. I personally don't like the feel of it, but Sam does. I think they do conform to the British standards, so *should* be safe enough.

I must admit, I don't like these type of hats. They don't 'look' safe, if you know what I mean.
But before you get rid of it, if you don't want a lot of £££ for it, please consider PMing me with a price, as most children out here don't have hats at all - I can think of a few familes/clubs/teenage girls who would give their right arm for ANY hat. The ones that the local 'club' has are mostly from the 1960's - the better ones have elastic under the chin!
On another forum, a couple of years ago, I had a collection of outgrown and unwanted stuff for the local riding school (which sadly closed due to lack of funds, but now appears to be operating on a limited basis again). Some of the girls were in tears at having their own pair of jods, riding gloves, boots or their own hat - we had some new hats donated too. :)

All hats including PAS and BSEN ones can fracture when dropped which is why you have to be very careful with them. Even if they don't appear to have any damage any impact can severely compromise the strength of the hat so that they don't stand up to the next impact which may involve your head.
Some years ago I was thrown head first onto concrete and knocked out. The consultant at A&E showed me my jockey-type crash helmet which was split and cheerfully informed me that it had saved my life. Needless to say it went in the bin when I got home.
