Kat loves her Millie

My lovely poor mare has had a terrible week. I can only just report about it as i've been living at the stables with her.
It starts last Wednesday when we had the vet out to do some dental work, she had to be sedated twice and on a course of antibiotics again. I hate injecting her so this was bad enough. Anyway she has gaps in between her teeth in which food gets stuck and then her gums get infected so the vet made the gaps bigger to allow the food to escape. To be honest since then she had been eating better so that's all good. She had her last antibiotic injection on Saturday luckily.
So on Sunday lunchtime we had a lovely ride, she was really lively and she's as fit as a fiddle at the moment. I left the stables at about 2.30 and went back down at 7 to feed etc...when I found this...

A lovely hole in her shoulder

I rang the YO who came down to help me and rang the vet. Sunday night emergency call...cant wait for that bill!
I spoke to the vet and explained how big it was and deep etc and he said that he probably wont sew it up as it would sew in infection but he would come and have a look if i wanted.
Bless her, she wasnt bothered about it in the slightest, she ate her tea including painkillers which she always has while we waited for the vet.
When he arrived he looked at it and said 'oh'. So she was quickly sedated, stapled up and it swelled up to the size of a rugby ball.

And here I am, not sleeping, worring about her with two weeks of my degree left...the joy.
This is a picture I took this morning, I think the vet did a really neat job and its starting to heal already.

The scar is going to be a lovely arrow.
So thats where we are now, back on the antibiotics and waiting for monday when the vet comes out again to take out the staples.
Thanks for reading
