My horse would tend to run on before a fence and she's been doing it for a while now but I have been competing her in a league so I took her last night and thought I would try saying to her going into a fence steady steady and would you believe it she stopped running on! I knew I looked a bit bad doing it but it worked! When we did our round she had a pole down in the 80 and two down in 90 but it really didn't bother me because she rode fantastic and there were no clears in the 80 and only one in the 90 but was very happy with her I finished up over all third and this is coming from a horse who was off work at the start of the year

That's super. Well done.
I think it's a case of what ever works for you.
I'll count out loud going into and through combination fences XC and SJ sometimes I'll count down, 3,2,1, out loud as it helps me ride for wards. I think it helps focus me which in turn makes me ride better.

Well done, that's really good.
Rou runs into jumps at the minute, we're working hard on slowly her up, but I've started talking loudly to her in my gay sing song voice 'Wooo steady princes, steady' that's usually what I say, it's fine when I'm riding alone but slightly embarrassing when I'm being watched lol.
