View Full Version : How easy is it to get a job?

Following on from my serious thinking re job decisions, I'm finding myself leaning towards a total change of direction - a horsey career being a possible one.

But how easy is it to actually find a job? It would be relatively straightforward for me to do a course of some sort (I live about 10 miles from Bishop Burton), but how often do jobs come up? I'm not mega ambitious by any means, a yard job of any kind would do fine, and I'm thinking a PTT would be a good idea for a course to do - I don't know how good you have to be as a rider to do this, but it seems a useful thing to have in terms of jobs.

Still pondering, really, any thoughts would be helpful.

to do the PTT you first need to do the BHS 1 and 2 so you need to be a stage 2 rider

Getting job not too hard, most yards that ive got jobs on dont advertise and ive just sent of CVs and been rung up to see if i would like a job with them, getting a job where you are paid well and treated fairly = hard

also sending out my CV to local places has gotten me head hunted for a few others yards that arent as local but ive never taken on any work with them as generally they are too far away with no or poor accomodation and in pricey areas to live

There are jobs out there, but the pay isnt great, esp while your learning, its pittance. I wouldnt've minded low pay except for the fact that I would have to ravel a long way as there werent any jobs near me when I finished my college course so I would actually have been losing money in the long run. Its rewarding but I would consider what you want to do very carefully as its hard to progress in something like that. dont mean to be negative or put you off, just making sure youve thought it through.
