my 4yr old has a sarcoid on his mouth, right in the corner where the bit sits. he has had the first set of mitomycin injections (4 alternate days then 3week wait) to try and get rid of it but its still there. could be 3 sets of injections and then possibly further treatment.

Has anybody had an experience like this? sarcoids in awkward places? all of the vets at my surgery have not seen this before and liverpool university is doing all the reccomendations.

Is there anything i could be feeding alonside treatment or natural remedies that have worked for others?

im at a bit of a loose end here, he isnt very comfortable with the swelling after treatment and its costing me a FORTUNE !!

any advice however small will be much appreciated. thanks

Not had any in awkward places fortunately. I used thuja cream which seemed to help, don't know if it would be OK to put near his mouth or not? They also make thuja tablets, cant say I noticed any difference when using these.

Best of luck with it!

Oh dear! Mine is a 4 year old and he had a sarcoid on his nose which was a right pain to get rid of! He had the liverpool cream treatment and had to stand with him for 2 hours after he had it on to stop him wiping it on himself/ on the floor. It has gone though now which is a relief.
So I def feel ur pain! they are a pain!

bless her thats awful, my floyd can get on with life a normal just cant have a bit in. she could try putting vaseline or something like that on her armpits, might help with the friction during light work and turnout etc.

Thank you all for your replys sorry i havent posted sooner my internet threw me off every 2mins. :miffed:
I can get a pic if it would help.

Can you ride him in a bitless bridle?
I've never heard of a sarcoid on the mouth either. Strange place for it.

i have been doing, and he's going quite well in it, it's just frustrating as im not used to bitless. but i suppose theres one upside; it's taught me alot during the process :)

My old loan horse had sarcoids initially on his face incldung round his mouth they went from there eventually then unfortuantely spread to other places :(
I don't know what the owner did to help with the ones on his face as it was before I knew him. He was ridden bitless

this is what im most worried about, i dont want it to get worse cause he's only got a small lump at the mo but the vets keep warning me it could spread which is i suppose to cover their backs more than anything but i know this is very possible.
did a treatment make them spread? or did they spread of their own accord?

I think it was of their own accord. However I've known 2 other horses that had sarcoids as youngsters and after they went they never had anymore. From what I've heard Simple Systems feed can help (don't know how, maybe it's because it has no rubbish in)
