Did you choose your horse's name? I think the choice of name says a lot about your personality and also social background!:D for example has your horse got a posh name?
My mare : kissie
She was originally Kizzy-I have heard of that before and I didn't like it for her.-it reminded me of fizzy and dizzy!
So I changed it to Kissie-(its much softer and kisses demonstrate love!):innocent:
I think this says I am cuddly type of person, quite approachable and not not aggressive at all. But I like to be an individual and unique. To me owning a horse is all about a close relationship!):)
So a bit of a wacky post (bet you didn't know I did psychoanalysis!):cheekywink:
So if you chose your horses' name, what do you think it says about you?

My horse is named after a potato... story tells all?
Nah Spud's first name was the name of the dealer who took him to the meat sale. He said Spud wasnt named, so i just named him that. He is still officially called this name in his passport.
I later renamed Spud as "Thowra" after the Elyne Mitchell series "the silver brumby" which the series is an ultimate favourite of mine for the simple fact it is an old series and is written in a spectacular way. Back then Spud had minimal spotting and roaning, so somewhat suited the description. I wanted a nice but different name for him.. Since then, Spud spotted out quite a bit and grew much more roaner. He only gets called by his first name, Thow or T when he's in trouble
'Spud' is his nickname, but i have called him this for the past 5 years, so he no doubt thinks its his name [ tbh it is really  ]
Havent got a clue what it says about me though!! Miss geeky read too much?
Rowan was originally named Mickey but was renamed by the people who owned him before me. I was tempted to rename him to "Merry" but he is very familliar with his name, and as i dont dislike "Rowan" i decided not to [ the fact he looks like a girl, and it is a unisex name does make everyone call him a filly/mare  ]

Mungo Madness - or a dikineey  ...........Only joking lovely!
Sisco was already named but I like it because its different.
Monty was already named but at first I didn't like it, sounded to much like a granddad name but once he got TLC it really began to suit him, either way I would never change it anyway.
Wizz was already named, I can see why he was named that now (maybe if I knew that at the time I wouldn't have brought him!...........only joking)
Magic was already named, his owner was a 6 year old girl, I actually HATED the name but didn't have the heart to change it because he was sold to me without her knowing with I thought was heartbreaking but I like it now.
Merlin had no name, I had SO many plans for his name but ended up with Merlin a bit boring! I thought he should have something to do with magical, thought about Wizard/Mystic etc but the remember the "Great Wizard Merlin" hence Merlin.
I almost called him Magpie though! At least his name has something to do with his big brother.
Jester had no name but because my friend brought him from the New Forest sales she named him Bailey, although I like it, I've heard it so many times, at that time didn't think it suited him much, so because she only had him 2 weeks before giving him to me I renamed him Jester.Which at the time I thought was different and didn't hear much but I was wrong, I think it suits him though but many get mixed up with Chester!
Marley had a name, I think he was renamed by my fired as in Bob Marley because of his mane, although his name before was Sage apparently, he didn't really come to either though, a lost soul, I wish he had a better life, RIP xx

I thought it was bad luck to change a horses name?
Buuut saying that Sultan when he was born was called Aubit by his breeder then the guy who bought him changed his name to Sultan as it was more 'araby'. I do like the name Aubit but I think I prefer Sultan for him as it comes up with more nicknames!
My favs for him are
Satan
Sulti
Sultmachine
Sultipants
What nicknames could I call him if he was Aubit?
Aubi or Aubios! lol BORING!
Belle
17th October 2009, 08:01 PM
Belle says nothing about me as she came with it - except that it says I haven't got enough imagination to change it and couldn't think of anything that sounded like Belle that I liked and she'd respond to :ashamed:

Well i named my mare Seren, it is welsh and means star, i just liked the name at the time and thought it was pretty. Strange thing is my name, Astra means star too, so both me and my horse's name mean the same thing which did not occur to me back in 1992

Troy was called Troy when i got him (I don't like it but it does suit him)
So called because he snuck in - his mum had a randevous with an escaped gypsy stallion one night!
His name on his passport is Chescarr

Kizzie who is the only one i named was called Sooty, I am NOT calling a horse Sooty, so we spent the journey home deciding on names for her, Kizzie kind of stuck and she gets lots of nick names like Fizzy, and Fizzle and Wizzy and Wizzle and all sorts of nonsence
the baby is currently called Sprog and might be called that when its born as well lol
I also named a few of the foals at work, Diva, as she was a lovely little foal and her mums foals are a 'D's, Jade, who is named after her mums theme of stones her mum being Amber, the other girls wanted to call it Crystal!!, Dime, who was named as she wouldnt let me call him Buck as his dad is Dollar and it the only money i could come up with
Tanner
17th October 2009, 09:00 PM
It is actually supposed to be bad luck to change their names, Ness. I got in so much trouble with people when I changed Tanner's name from when I bought him. They couldn't believe I would do it!
Markus was Markus. I had every intention of changing it (was possibly going to be Dorian) but once I got to know him a bit he is such a Markus that changing it seems ridiculous. He mostly gets Sparkie (hey, at least it rhymes) or Monster though.
Tanner was Slick which was a horrible name for such a lovely animal. He became D'Artagnan from the Three Muskateers which shortened to Tanner. Honestly though, after about 2 years I began calling him George (I don't know why, I think it started as a joke) and pretty much only called him George/Georgie from then on. In fact, there were some people who only knew him as George and were confused when I mentioned Tanner. Don't know what that says about me? Perhaps that I'm a little crazy...

a girl i went to college with had a horse called Lemon, its racing name was Miss Lemon and it wasnt even a pally or anything it was just bay!
actually i also bought a Pony called MAGGOT!!! she was dun and her breeder called her that as when she was born she looked like a maggot, she was a really pale silver dun, i changed her name dad said i couldnt have her if she was called that, even though it was me paying, she ended up being called Mouse

I've never changed any of my horses names and it would feel weird to me to do so. Names are given for a reason and I'm glad that none of my horses names have been so bad that I have wanted to change them. Of course I have nick names for them too but they do know their proper names and will respond to their names mainly where food is involved !!...
So not sure what that says about me...... :innocent:
My Zimbabwean horses.......
'Coral Cruz' - a pretty TB chestnut mare bred for racing - lovely natured mare (rescued)
'Lovliest' - a tiny pretty TB chestnut mare also bred for racing. She was only about 14'3 and had lots of attitude ! (rescued)
'Grande Belle' - a Standardbred trotter, I called her 'Belle' - she was a beautiful dark bay and looked exactly like Baby
'Sebastian' - a handsome elderly bay, dunno what breed he was but another rescue.
My UK horses:
'Baby'- her registered name is Derizor Delightful Lady. Must admit that I wasn't overly thrilled with the name Baby but I'm used to it now and she is such a big baby :D
'Chip' - his registered name is 'Captain Cloudy' .....and I'm glad I don't have to call him that  However when he's being a grumpy bum his name does come in handy ! :D
chance encounter
17th October 2009, 09:48 PM
Darli came with this as a stable name. I love it though and always think it is a real sweet name just like him. He is a real loving pony and loves hugs and kisses, in fact he pushes his muzzle into your face.
The girl we bought Chance from had changed her name to Chance as she didnt like her registered name. We never showed her as an M&M so didnt have to use her registered name so we called her Chance Encounter. This was because we werent going to see her to start off but had arranged to see another pony, I saw her the day before and as it was a long way to go for one decided to look at her too. Chance means possiblity or happen upon and encounter means unplanned or unexpected.
Diggi's real name is Cyntaf the Goldigga. His previous owners called him Digga which we didnt like. BCE said he sounded like a digger!! So we changed it slightly to Diggi, which we think is more smoother and nicer.
I dont know if any of the names would describe me though. Probably Darli's the most as I am very soft hearted, emotional, cry a lot at silly things and am hurt very easily.

When we bought Kissi, Nat asked one of the stablehands how her name was spelled - "Kissi" and that is how Nat and I always spell her name. However on her passport, her name is spelled Kizzy. Rhia was already named when we bought her although i spell it Rhia and her passport spells it as Rhea.
fell lover

Becky's name is Wansfell Rebecca and when i bought her they called her Becks or Becky. I hate David Beckham so called her Becky.
Montana was named that as her breeder was going over to Montana that year and she liked the name.
So I haven't changed either.
Storm was called Dawn, but I didn't like it (having a good friend called Dawn) so changed it. She is now dead so (rightly or wrongly) I will never change a name again!!

Mac raced as Soldier Mak, his old owners used to call him Soldier but I never really felt that suited him so I called him Mak but then when I bought him I decided I didn't like Mac with a 'K' so changed it to 'C' - it just seems nicer somehow!
TJ is passported as Timothy however my dad is Timothy/Tim so it had to be changed to avoid confusion! TJ stands for Timothy James as my surname is James, it was either that or Timbo but TJ seems further away from Tim so that's what he became.

Saffy was called Domino but the dealer had been calling her Pear (she owns her half brother who's called Apple  )
I definitely wanted to change her name because 1) domino doesn't suit her and 2) I immediately thought of flambards' Domino on here and he's a boy
I love ab fab so came up with Saffy. Show name is 'Absolutely Fabulous Dahling'. It was either that or Dottie at first but Saffy seemed to stick more. When I was buying stuff for her just after I got her I was in robinsons and heard someone go 'Are you buying stuff for Dottie?' but she was Saffy to me so ignored it. It was only when I got to the checkout I realised it was baymare off here!! Chance meeting :)
So all in all...think it says I love absolutely fabulous :D

Xena was already called xena when i got her..wanted to change it but was told she had been xena since a foal so kept it! She is Zena on her passport though as the vet spelt it wrong!
I named Xanthe - wanted something beginning with an X and my best friend (who is greek!) suggested Xanthe which is Greek for Light :D
I didnt name anni - i wanted to change it but couldnt really make anything out of Gilfach Anastasia other than Anni!
I also named my last couple of ponies.
I had a Molly, who then had a foal who i named Millie :)
Goldie was half named by me...he didnt come with a name but YO knew him from a couple of years before and thought he was called Goldie back then...i chose his showname which was Golden Imprint - because he made an impression on everyone who saw him!! It was shortened to Golden Imp when he was naughty!!
Umm actually thinking about it i have named almost all of mine!!
My first pony was called Hannah when she first came, YO changed it to Spice as my sister is a Hannah but i changed it to Libby.
YO's were dealers so names were changed all the time...and probably changed when they were sold to the next owners aswell!!

My choice of name just shows that I have an amazing lack of imagination!
Ollie was the name of a pony at the trekking centre where I kept my old horse. When thinking of names for my current boy this pony came into my head. They are not at all alike, but I felt the name suited my boy, hence Ollie!
Felt a bit of a cop out lifting an old name!
I had planned to buy a black section D and call him Islwyn. Best made plans eh!
Wouldn't swop Ol for the world though!

Colby was cracker. To me ... it either sounded like a kids pony, or crack ... crack head . I wanted a name thay ended in Y or IE to match my FerdIE, DigbY , and felt Colby suited him.
Not really sure it sais anything about my personality though ... any other pyschics can analyse if they care to :D
cj was cracker too! i thought, cracker jack, and cj for short!
ive always like the name jazz, but her name was gem before!

My pony was already named Doris when I bought her and I decided to keep it as she was used to it.
Mind you I've grown to like it now, think it's suits her :)
Osci
19th October 2009, 11:48 AM
Oscar was Oscar when he came to me & Poppy was Poppy/Pops..when i spoke to Poppy's breeders they had only known her by her registered name which is Tyntyla Brenhines so the lady before me must have given her the stable name Poppy. I like both my horses names but wouldnt really changed names unless i hated them as it is beleived to be unlucky.

i quite like the name oscar :D
Oscar gets called all sorts (Osci, Osc etc etc) but i think with his dramatic performances to plastic bags, monsters in the hedge etc he deserves an Oscar so his name really suits him!

Vinny came as Vinny but I have named a few:
Jaffa, because he was orangey when he was born. I LOVE this name, surprisingly enough even my old boss (his owner) liked it too and that was his racing name as well as his stable name. But sadly he died as a yearling.
The Boxer, because he is built like a box on legs, and also after the Simon & Garfunkel song. I called him Boxy for short. He broke down (or should I say, was broken down?) as a youngster and will never come sound, dunno what happened to him.
Fairyhouse, after the racetrack in Ireland. She was the only one out of the three who had any luck at all and is alive, sound (as far as I know) and no longer in her breeder's hands.
