Sleep well my Trojan Horse

Just before 10 am this morning, my sweet boy Troy was calmly and peacefully put to sleep with the sun on his back and a mouth full of polos.

He struggled to get off the wagon but his eyes lit up when he saw me - I knew I was doing the right thing for my lovely kind boy.

We led him straight round to a lovely grassy area where I talked to him, cuddled him and gave him polos. I kissed his eye, told him I loved him and thanked him.

He didn't fall particularly gracefully - but Troy didn't do anything gracefully
The vet was under strict instructions not to let him bang his head - which he didn't. She lowered his head carefully and gently - and he was gone.

No twitching or gasping or fighting. It was his time to go.

I stroked his head for a while - Just looking into his eye - still so kind even when the light had gone out - it still looked alive.

I was unbelievably calm and a huge wave of relief passed over me.

So yeah - my sweet sweet boy has gone.

RIP my Trojan horse. I love you always and know you will always look after me.

Very brave Jo, and calling it a day for our lovely friends is the least selfish thing we can ever do. Troy has ended his life in this world in the best possible way, with people who love him, happy and content with everything.

Oh Jo,

This is one of the saddest posts I have seen for a long time, you are incredibly brave and have been amazing throughout everything with him. Troy would be so thankful for you to have made the decision for him.

It sounds as though being with him was the right thing for you to do, as was said you do seem at peace. You know it was the right decision and he will be looking over you and making sure you are ok.

Be pleased it was nice and peaceful and that you can hold onto all the amazing memories you have had together.

He would never have had a better mum than you and I am sure I am not the only one to think that any horse which now comes into your life will be so lucky to have you.
