View Full Version : RIP little Spirit

It's taken me ages to post this thread, but I lost a pony very close to my heart on Monday and it's taken me a while to get my head around it and pluck up the courage to type. I'm still not quite there really, who'd have thought someone else's horse could mean so much to you?

This is my friend's pony Spirit, who was PTS on Monday after being seriously kicked in the leg by another horse, breaking his left hind in literally two pieces.

Her mum bought him for 300. He was an extremely nervous, 12.3hh, unbroken 6 year old who'd been abused and was advertised as "quick sale or off to the meat man". His owner is only 14 and is in pieces about losing her pony, and I'm not much better. He was in the process of being backed by a woman on the yard and was doing brilliantly and had the brightest future ahead of him after all the misery of his past. I had quite a bit of contact with him and we really got on together (considering how nervous he was). His owner often said she hated him out of pure frustration and lack of understanding when he was having a bad day, so I would often keep her on track with him and show her that he can be brilliant just with paitence. Just a couple of weeks back he'd been placed in an in hand class with his owner, and things were really looking bright. He really loved his owner, probably the only one he actually trusted regardless of her frustrations with him, and I guess I'm just happy he found love eventually after 5 years of misery. This little lad was taken from us far too soon and didn't deserve the misery he'd been put through, or to be taken from his loving family.

Rest in peace Spirit, you were a pleasure to be around.

His owner said "you got what you wanted pony, you never wanted too be broken, and you haven't been, take care and don't forget me my little unbreakable spirit"

No thank god, we have no idea which horse did it to him (or whether it was a kick at all) but the vet said they looked like kick wounds. It was actually a passer by that found him staggering and dragging a leg, his field is quite far from the main yard site so nobody knows how long he was like that.
Spirit was in a totally different field to Holly thankfully, but I guess that's another reason it hit me so hard because of everything thats going on in Holly's field I'm just so scared that I get the same call my friend got.

Thank you for your kind words everybody.

Poor Spirit, and poor owner. What a sad tale. At least he found some happiness before he died.
