R.I.P. Volance - Blackhill Hosanna

Yesterday I felt the utter heartbreak of losing a pony a dearly loved.
I had Volance from a foal bought straight from the welsh mountain for the huge amount of £38!! He was hard work, opinionated, everything the blackhill ponies were known for but he was also the most loyal pony and taught me everything I know, first pony I brought up, trained and broke by myself. Volance very much had the wow factor, as a 4yo I knew I couldnt do him justice and sold him to a very good friend of mine for her kids where she took him pony club and county showing, everything he needed....
Yesterday I recieved this message:

Hi

Im sorry to be the bearer for such sad news, but sadly Smartie (aka Volance) was put to sleep this morning. I was not present, but Sarah was with him at the end :(

Sarah had started to notice something was not right, so got the vet out, it was determined that due to severe cataracts he was completely blind in one eye and going blind in the other, the vet felt due to the severity it would not be in his interest to operate.

The vet felt he has had this condition for a long time but its only as its got worse that it has become apparent.

Very sad as he was so very young and full of life :(

Volance would of been 7 years old on the 3rd May.... I read the message, and felt that overwhelming pain in my chest, I had been to see him with my friend and he was so happy, Im gonna miss him so much xxx

What a terrible shock and shame - I nearly bought a mare only for the vetting to show progressive cataracts, and the operations are rarely of much use.

Volance may have had a relatively short life but what a life! Those pictures show an amazing pony, full of life, character and happiness, having an absolute ball.

He's clearly brought a lot of job to a lot of people, and it's all down to you for bringing him off that hill....

Yes he was by many people. Between myself and my friend we decieded not to break the news to the kids on my yard (2 young girls who learnt to ride on him) and just continue to tell them that hes happy and having fun with new little girls xx

What a little cracker he was! You were so privileged to have him. He looks like my idea of an ideal pony, full of spirit and fire but safe enough for tiny children. RIP beautiful little man.
