To put it very quickly for those that just want to know results - it went a bit like this...

We were 'unplaced'.

Hopefully will do better next time. And yes, there will be a next time because both Icarus and I loved every minute of it. He seems to thrive in the atmosphere and really enjoyed charging about with the 20 other welsh Ds in the class. It sounded and felt like a cavalry charge!

For manners and way of going we got 35 and for conf we got 36. So average but not bad scores. I did feel that his individual show was a bit dressagey for a ridden welsh D class, and he could do with being a little more collected with a bit more oomph, but we had a bit of a canter extension! :yahoo: Conf i cant do a lot about for the future, but the ridden bit we can improve. And when i say we were unplaced were only about 4 or 5 marks behind the bulk of the rest of the cobs. So nothing to be ashamed of.

Oh, and he looked a bit anorexic compared to others, but i'm not having him any fatter. If the judges think he's too lean then pffft, i dont mind.

A few (thousand) photos.

I've been waiting for these! And I'm in the middle of nowhere in yorkshire so it took forever to load on my phone. Tease! He looks brilliant. So so so good. Are you doing any dressage with him at the moment? He looks like he'd really be raking in the marks now. Never mind about not being placed, he looks fab. Oh and if you think 20 cobs is a big class, come up here. There are 60 pre-entered into the D class at cheshire

20 is just the ones that showed up! There were a scary number pre-entered! Haven't got any dressage planned for anytime soon. But we've got a few ODES planned soon. Should be fun!

Well done, as long as you are happy with him then that's all that really matters. It looks like a strong class and to be only a few marks behind is very good.

He is looking fabulous as per!!

Baffled that they placed fat unfit horses above Icarus, who is the only horse in those photos that looks as if he's ever done a day's work.

Well done, you look great! But I am so surprised by the notion that he is TOO FIT FOR SHOWING that I am going to have to start another thread.

I think the bit that is difficult for judges to do is decide whether to choose the horse that is technically the best conformation and best type but rather obese, or choose the less 'correct' horse just because it is in the best condition.

As showing is basically to promote breeding quality animals, i'm afraid that quality of horse always comes before the size of the horse. Some judges do comment on weight now though.
