I am concerned about Dyl. This morning I had a call from one of the girls who got to the yard just before I did. She was mucking out one of the horses and Dyl went to lie down. Dyl never lies down when there are people around and the only time we have ever seen him lay down is when he has had colic.

He is colic prone. She rushed into the stable and he willingly got back up and started to tuck into his hay, which made her think that actually he is ok. As he won't eat normally when he has colic. To be on the safe side though she removed his net and rang me.

When I got there he seemed normal, but just a bit grumpy and tired!

He had a very small breakfast and started on his hay in the paddock.

I asked the yard owner to keep her eye on him throughout the day while she was there.

Popped up this evening to check on him (it wasn't my night to do the horses, but was worrying).
He came in quite eagerly and had his tea. I observed him aferwards, and he didn't want his hay and was dithering about in the stable. He drank some water.

My problem is, is that he didn't seem 100% and our gut instinct was that somehting is up. But he wasn't showing any of the normal signs of colic which he normally does.

His turnout rug was filthy with wet mud (and Dyl never rolls in mud or water) so I found this odd.
He stood with his head over the stable door, with his bottom lip going (which happens when he is tired).

So I wonder whether he is just under the weather. Or we wondered whether he had actually colicked over night last night and had got through it on his own (we don't often get the vet straight out for his colic, as we can get him through it normally by walking him, as it appears to be caused by trapped wind)!

We wonder whether he had shifted the colic over night and we caught the tail end of it this morning, and now he is knackered as he had no sleep last night....

either way I am worried sick. I am probably going to head up there in a bit to make sure everything is ok with him :(

I know just how you feel because Chip is also prone to colic and the least change in his usual habits has me worrying.

A sloppy bran mash may help to clear him out and I find with Chip that long lush grass helps to get his gut working. Do you have any bute you could give him?

Fingers crossed that he is ok.

Sorry to hear that. If his rug was dirty and he doesn't usually roll it sounds as though he's been lying down in the field which would also indicate something might be wrong (if he doesn't usually do it).

It's possibly he's just feeling a bit under the weather I guess but I think in your shoes I would probably at least call the vet to see what he says.

Just got back from yard (so scarey in the pitch black, and I heard voices coming from he fields which freaked me out big time!).

I quietly opened the barn door and he was stood up, he looked like he was eating hay but looking at his hay net it looks barely touched. Maybe e is just being a fussy ***!

There was a nice big poo in his stable.

He looked brighter than he did earlier on, ears pricked and nickered and neighted at me! :D

It has settled my mind that he is ok. Phew :D

I hope hes ok, Monty suffers from colic, most of the time he can't go to toilet so we use liquid paraffin, works a treat.
