I arrived back from 'Your Horse Live' tonight to a very sore Baby who was microchipped last night and then Chip came in from the field with what looks like a deep gouge in his left fore coronet band :( and as it was dark, I only noticed it when I was picking his feet out and wondered why his hoof felt so warm! Its about the size of a 50p coin so not big.
I cold hosed it, then sprayed it with aloe vera purple spray and applied an animalintex patch to the wound. I bandaged it up and put a poultice boot over it and gave him some bute. I hope that's enough and he didn't appear to be lame on it at all but obviously the primary concern is infection. Hopefully the dry poultice will draw any infection out.
