Does anyone know anything about/ is a vet in the army?
Any info. on it would be great and what it is like. I have had a look on their website and i think that for me it would be very interesting.
I come from an army family- grand dad, dad and soon brother all have been/will be in the army and i think it sounds very interesting from the point of view as a vet.
Obviously it will be very specialised. either working with the dogs or the horses... but i think it would be a great start to my (hopefully) vet career. and possibly something i may stay in for for a long time.
So does anyone know any info. on it at all? Anyone has boyfriends/husbands/brothers/family in the army who they could ask?

My dad was in the army and you just need to remember that when you go out to serve its not easy and is hard work :)
But if you think you can do might definatly be worth looking into be sponsered by the army :)

I don't know anyone who has been an army vet, but my friend was a dog handler. She joined up when she was 18 or 19 I think. I think she enjoyed aspects of it like working with the dogs and the bond she developed with them, and the people she met.
She did 2 tours in Iraq. I think that possibly when she joined up the reality of having to go to war was not something she ever really thought about. I know she found it hard out there and she came back very jumpy. But I think at the same time she did enjoy it in some way. She has now left the army.
I think you have to be sure you can handle army life - I know I couldn't. But I think it would be very rewarding. As your family is all involved with the army I'm sure you will have more idea what to expect then others.
Good luck with your decision!

My old farrier originally trained through the Army and is now very very well respected in this area and trains alot through colleges, one of the vets at the practice i use though has recently come back from a stint in afganhistan with the TA, not sure how he got into doing it at all

i think tbh. i can handle it... i have seen so much in my life and some really horrific things and have come out the other side stronger than before... I think the whole thing about army life makes me very excited- i love action... you knwo when you think about what yuo want to do as a career... my choices were fighter jet pilot, police drug person, vet..so they have always been something action.. and i dunno..army life just seems something that appeals to me- get to train as a vet but then also get the excitement and thrill of being in the army... i geuss i love adrenaline and i love excitement... and i geuss the army wont always offer that.. but no job will.. but i think the army has a very good chance of letting me do the two things that i really want to be able to do... be a vet but also do things that my friends back here would never have thought of doing.. me, want to be different? no.. :p
Im seeing the army liason officer when hes next at school...
The one thing that scares me.. is that both me and my brother would be in the army...and 2 of my cousins... im not sure how my mum would cope with that!
I think also that although it is many years away... i ahve grown up in a country that has always been at war.. from when i can rember the news.. about 2001.. we have been at war.. and yes i hope to god that in 6 years time or so we are not in afghanistan still... but no doubt we will be somewhere else.. and i think always in the back of my mind i will know that if i do go intot he army.. theres a very real chance of going on tour.. but then again that is something that makes me want to do it mroe...
rambly rambly rambly.. will shut up now! lol..
If anyone can get in touch with the people they know that would be great!

It is very hard to get into the Royal Vet Corp, I tried in my early 20's they only take a handful a year for vet training and only 2/3 for Vet Nurses (it was then) I would go to your local Army Careers office and get all the info you need... I applied to be a vet nurse and was a week too late and never re-applied

Sounds like you like the idea of being at the centre of some drama or the other, but to be perfectly honest its not all excitement and fun filled action. You say you've been through a lot in your life already but I think you'd soon find that there's a lot more to being in the armed forces than what you've been through already.
I've 'been through' stuff - most of us have - and I'm certainly a strong minded, dedicated person - but would I be able to take the army way of life? No!
Speak to someone who actually does it, who has seen the worst things you can imagine - and try to make a mature decision on whether this is really what you want xx
