A post prompted by Trary, she's got me thinking!

I have invested in my own saddle now and having just spent more money on it I need to make sure it's kept in good condition when not in use.

At the moment saddle and bridle are kept in our locked tack room which does get a little damp. (Some of the older saddles that don't get used have mildew on them.)

What can I use to help protect the leather? What would be the best type of cover to use while it's sitting on the rack? I've seen saddle covers in different materials....

Another one for my Xmas list me thinks!

Many thanks

mine has one on purely becasue it came with it but usually only has it on when i have put it in the trailer to stop it getting scratched etc, mines a nice fleecy one,

to try and prevent mould growing some saddle soaps and prodcuts have i think they use tea tree oil to stop the mould growing, and eucalyptus i think, i use oakwood products as they are really good thier leather conditioner is fantastic stuff,

Thanks S&W.

I want to get a cover as well though as our tack room is quite dusty, I'm sure my saddle would stay cleaner if it was covered when not in use.

I have a fleecy cover for my saddle, I think its really handy to stop it getting scratched between my garage and going on Bella' back. I got it on eBay - its bright pink and has sheep on :)

I've got a John Whitaker one, which has two different handles for carrying it with, so it's easy to move around too!
