View Full Version : What's your horse's 'weirdest' habit?

Well mine have a few  but the weirdest has to be:
Chip - when I bring him in from the field and tie him up outside his stable without putting his haynet up first, he will frantically grab at the lead rope trying to untie himself, even though he knows it's just a quick stroll across the yard for me to get his haynet ! I'm sure he thinks he'll starve to death in that short time  As soon as he has his hay, he relaxes and munches away :)
Baby - if she doesn't do a wee before you get on her, she will be as naughty as hell and you have to keep walking her around (whilst mounted) and asking her if she wants to wee ! She decides where and when she wants to do it and until she makes her mind up, she continues to be a naughty girl !

Oh this is a tough one - Spud does SO many weird things, ill have to have a think which is his weirdest
Scottie's is probably curling his tongue, sticking it out the side of his mouth/yawning while the tongue is curled, then nodding his head up and down rapidly
.. weird boy :D

Darli is a weirdo too! We always say he has OCD. When we first got him he used to make tracks in the field. He would only walk on these tracks and he actually wore down the grass. He doesnt do it any more so I take it that was before he settled down.

Uva, even as a 10year old, HAS to empty any bucket put infront of her- grooming kit/bath equipment/ electric fencing bits- she takes it all out and puts it on the floor next to it, not that weird, but so out of character for her!!

Every time I put Harmony's headcollar on, she its the lead-rop as close to the clip as possible and chews it for a while before walking on  Shes always done it, no matter what lead-rope/headcollar I've used!

kitkat also trys to untie himself. he will try to untie other horses too if they are tie up to the field fence.
perdy walks to the trough, has a drink then walks away. when he is a few foot away from the trough he opens his mouth and loads of water falls out.??? no idea why he does that.
oh and prince, if he needs to wee, he wont even stop grazing!

Sultan is very weird! When he goes into his stable he likes to rub himself all the way round his stable! He digs up his bed so he can get closer to the wall, and he makes these weird grunting noises while doing it!
Oh and a new one he picked up the other day! I stood behind him checking how fat his belly had gone when he rushed backwards towards me, I thought he was going to double barrel me so I lept out of the way. But he kept coming until he pinned me to the fence! Where weirly he just stood with his bum in my face! So I gave him a quick cuddle and moved but where ever I went he followed in reverse to put his bum back in my face! Weirdo!

Sisco will empty everything he can get his hooves on, he has to put all 4 legs in the water tub, he licks you face, keeps almost touching the electric fence.
Monty will back his arse up to you for a itch, doesn't matter were you are or what our doing, Even on the wheel barrow handles.
Merlin, laughs all the time, he runs around with his bucket in his mouth.
Magic love playing with water, he blows, splashes, everything.

Another one I've just remembered. If I scatch Harmony anywhere on her body, when I stop she'll back up into me (no matter where I am) and keep walking back into me untill I scratch her teats/tail

Kizzie will try and eat your feet all the time she loves feet, if you stand with a foot resting and your back to her she gets hold of the heel of your boots and pulls your foot up, she also likes the baggy part of the front of your jeans she starts chewing and flapping with that, and then gets really confsued if your in shorts

maverick my tb when putting his headcollar on he has to at least grab hold of the leadrope and carry it for a few steps before letting go and walking on, he also likes to play with the zip on my jacket and he weirdly has to flop his top lip up and down on me like he has an itch..

Chip sometimes does that too Chloe! Must be a TB thing :). He's generally very 'mouthy' and has to hold or chew EVERYthing. Whilst the farrier was working on his front left foot last time, I could see Chip fiddling with the apron strap on the farriers back, then I heard the sound of velcro being 'opened' and before the farrier had time to react, his apron had beem removed and had dropped to the floor  Chip looked so pleased with himself :D
