Seems I am not the only one who has a problem with my vets :fuming:
I see Gem's thread re. Saf and Greyeventer's thread, as well as my own where two vets wrongly diagnosed Abbey's lameness :fuming:
What is going on with vets? Is it really that hard to find a decent, actually knows what they are talking about vets these days? I know it is in my area :(
I have never really liked vets I have to say, never experienced a good vet at all.
To me, a good vet is one that takes time to make a diagnosis, builds up trust with the horse first before examining, explains to me what he is doing to the horse and why and explain in huge detail why he has diagnosed what he has and show me where possible. Afterall, we pay scandalous charges for our vets, is it so wrong to expect the works when they come out???

My vet is fantastic, as are any of the other vets ive been sent from his practice. He is old fashioned and no nonsense and does a ****** good job!

There will always be 'good and bad' vets out there. Different training produces different skills and knowledge.
I've had a fair share of appauling vets who i'd love to stop practicing, however the majority of vets are usually pretty good.
It's quite easy to pick apart the small things they do wrong [they are only human] but it depends on the larger errors they make, such as trying to tell me Scottie was going to end up looking emicated because of his arthritis.
I guess its like being a doctor, there are so many things it 'could be' and theres big pressure from owners now that everyone seems to sue eachother if someone makes a mistake.
Im glad i have found some fantastic vets, Gemma and Jack are brilliant

Funny you should say that. After yesterday's performance I was marching round the yard shouting about Abbey's abcess  I did meet a lovely vet the other day though. Really should've just gone with him but idiot me went with a recommendation from someone who apparently knows nothing. He seemed great though. Turned up early, was a very pleasant man, took his time with the horse, spoke nicely to her etc. He was fit as hell too

My vets are fantastic :D Nelson was amazing when Blossie colicked and had to be PTS - he even dropped a sympathy card in our house the next day. I honestly don't know a better vet.
All the other ones from this practice are lovely too! Yes they occassionally make a mistake (like the time one gave Blossie too much sedative and I returned to find her holding her up in the stable) but they are nice to my horses which is so important. And the staff when you ring up are lovely too.
I have only ever had one bad vet, who did Bella's teeth and was very rough and adamant she was 'messing around' - she was terrified!

A lot of them are getting to darn lazy for their own good.

My vets are fantastic i think the one i usually have is brilliant she has been doing mine for ages and is always really through and will talk something through with you as well, the other vet i tend to have is also very good but sometimes isnt always as quick or certain about things, he is a little indecidisve and hesitant to make a proper diagnosis but he is still very good and thorough and was fantastic with Dennis as he was the one that came to put him down

At the start of Till's lameness I was fuming with my vets. They messed me about, cancelled appointments, gave treatments that weren't necessary (x-rays that were useless as they left the shoes on which hid the tumour, nerve blocks that weren't done right and they told me it was her knee, Hyonate injections into the coffin joint for suspected arthritis :mad:) They also never phoned me to say we could pick her up after her xrays and just seemed generally slack!
I stuck with them because there was an insurance claim going through and they are the only practice nearby with an MRI machine (which ended up being a godsend as it showed up the tumour.)
But during and after her op they've been amazing. I have a different vet (same practice) doing the after care and she's fab. She's lovely to Till, explains everything to me in a clear but not patronising way. Spends time answering my stupid questions! She's even given me her mobile number and said if I'm ever concerned I can text her and she'll phone me straight back, even if it's a weekend or a day she's not working.
Amazing how much difference it makes when the person is a genuine animal / horse lover rather than some stuck up *** who's in it for the money!

i dont think its lazy i think its that they will have ALOT of horses and other animals to look after, the pracitce i use covers a HUGE area and only has eight vets and every animal they visit they tehn have to make notes on everything and make sure that bills and such are in order
