Probably not, there are people out there who do ride youngsters. Yes TB's are broken in and raced young, but theres no excuse for it with family ponies.

To be fair if all they've done is walk it round the field with a small child on its not that bad. Nothing compared with the damage that is caused by racing TB's which at this age are in full training and that is considered acceptable.(not that I agree with it).

I highly doubt they got a qualified saddle fitter to agree to saddle the poor thing, so its most likely the smallest saddle they could find to plonk on the pony. If it was a year older, then yeah ok, little damage done. But obviously riding it for atleast 2 months previously, people should know better. you can still ruin their backs by having riders on them at such a vital age for growing, and even having a walk around in bad tack wont do them a lot of favours. People wonder why some ponies coming from places like Appleby who have been sat on [or ridden into the ground] since a year old, end up troubled with poor backs

Unfortuntely this pony seems to have fallen into the hands of some ignorant people ( I dont think they would do it if they were educated in how to look after a pony).
Now this pony is up for sale, it most probably will fall into more hands of ignorant people at that price, unless it is very lucky. Not sure if any of the charities would do something about it.

Poor horses, I always feel for youngsters like this, they are stupid if they think its ok to ride a baby.

For that price it makes you want to buy him and make sure he has a good home, poor BABY!

Was that the little shetland? My friend phoned up about him to rescue him but someone was going to see him that day and they bought him. Hope he found a lovely home.

At 1 year old I think that is definately wrong, regardless of how light the child is. Poor thing.

i feel sick reading that ad.... stupid stupid people..... to a pony so young - a 'light' child will still weigh alot!

jeeze some people dont care at all.... as long as little 'tommy jr' gets to ride his pony NOW they dont care about what damage they do .....

I hardly think it will have done much *work* as such and a 5yo isnt going to weigh much. Not saying i agree with it but its no worse than 2yo TBs racing as said before.

If I had the cash I would happily go and rescue him.

No excuse for riding youngsters, it is down right cruel and abuse, end of :fuming:
