Got Saffy in from the field today to find a big cut on her nearside hind hock. On closer inspection there was also blood on her fetlock. I trotted her up and it was a bit stiff but nothing too awful. I went straight to the tap to hose it down and as I was cleaning it off, her fetlock started to balloon and she stopped putting weight on it. I felt it again and even though it was soaked in freezing water you could pretty much fry an egg on it. I got a 2nd opinion from one of the women on the yard. She couldn't believe how big it was and how quickly it was filling with fluid - she thought it was a torn tendon :sad-no: I called the emergency vet and he arrived within an hour (had travelled from miiiiiles away!).
He was great with her. Had a feel around and watched her walk and said it was good that she wasn't hopping lame, which she probably would be with a torn tendon. He gave her a painkiller injection (she was a very good girl) and I have lots of packets of Danilon - 2 a day for the next 3 days. He said to get the vet out again on Monday and cold hose every day and keep her on box rest.
My poor little girl :crying: She's been a wonderful patient so far and seems happy in herself, which is good. I'm SO angry with myself though. The other 2 horses in the field have been being a bit mean to her but she's only been out with them for a fortnight so said I'd give it a week and if it was still going on I would ask the yard owner if I could move her. I should've moved her when I first thought about it :( Big healing vibes needed for my wonderful little princess xxx
