its a really good thing to do you will learn all the bits and pieces that are essential if you ever get your own horse but you might not learn just going and having lessons

will be hard work though you will be tired and smelly

I loved it! I turned a few horses out, learnt how to put their rugs on, (saw Fozzy in his field, he's had his maine shaved bless him!), cleaned their feed bowls, got to watch a farrier put new shoes on Pepper - loved watching that! and then cleaned a few saddles!

I learnt a lot! xxx

You will learn so much, and you will love it - even the 'nasty' jobs!! Best way to learn. I worked at my stables for 10 years, then it closed down unfortunately. :(

Today was good! I even had my lunch there :p

We turned horses out and brought some in, fed them, I watched 2 lessons, tacked Fozzy up completely all on my own, put hay in the fields and filled their water buckets!

Busy day indeed but i'm learning a lot.

AND - i've made a new friend :D

Well done!! The experience will be brilliant. I could never have even considered buying a horse had I not helped out at stables for years and loaned!

i loved helping out at my riding school, i went almost every day for 4 years and i learned do much from it! I wouldn't have had a clue about anything if i hadn't have been there, and there's no way i'd have my own horse (simply because i just wouldnt have the experience to look after him). I'm sure you'll have loads of fun getting to know all the horses and you'll come away with plenty of knowledge xx

I'm meeting a lot of people doing it. Today was knackering, I had to brush one horse, wash anothers bum/tail (it was gross lol, so much poo!), and filled 12 hay bails for tonight. Then I watched lessons for the disabled for the rest of the evening. My lesson was in the middle of all this.

I helped out at my local stables for a good year before I moved to Cornwall. There was me and one other helper, and between us on a Saturday we tacked up riding school horses, mucked out 12 or so livery stables, made feeds for liveries, got ponies ready for lessons, led in lessons (we used to pull straws, neither of us liked doing this!), bought in the liveries and put them to bed, then untacked riding school horses and put them to bed too. The instructors employed to do all of this were too busy teaching on a Saturday. Slave labour, yes probably, but we both had a wicked time and came to be part of the team up there :)

It was a fantastic experience, the yard even had a equine hydrotherapy spa, if we were really lucky we got to help out with that too with the horses in for rehab.

thats nothing you will get fitter

Today i Mucked out Ten, rode three, lunged two, washed one, hogged and pulled a tail, pulled two manes, held for the dentist, power hosed a stable, gave a lunge lesson and fed horses in the fields,
