Just seen a few posts about it recently. Shauny and william don't seem to, they've drunk more out of their troughs since the snow's fallen than they have all the time they've been home, a couple of times I've come back after a few hours finding the trough on the verge of empty when it was full that morning.
Don't know whether mine just haven't worked out that snow's just solid water, or whether they're not actually happy eating it in place of water, which makes sense really.
So have yours eaten snow in place of water? Or have they let themselves get thirsty in place of eating it?

Sisco does but magic and merlin do not, they less used to snow then sisco.

I gave them some by hand to show them they CAN eat it if they please.

Mine don't but that may be because they live at my parent's. If their trough is frozen they just call until mum or dad come out to top their buckets up.

Well Rocky must be drinking something, I think he's eating the snow - and he's really not drinking at all when he is in, maybe just a sip at the most.
And he is still peeing all in his bed - I see when I muck out
So I have assumed it WAS the snow, now thankfully it has all thawed!

Here in Norway we have lots of snow and ice every winter for several months... and it is very important at this time to give the horses plenty of watewr that is not too cold. So snow-eating is not the best og things really. And eating the snow wont give them enough water anyway because a full bucket of snow when melted is just not much at all.

We use warm water in the tub outside to make the temperature lukewarm, that makes the horses drink more :) and it is the vets recomandation.
