I was having a browse last night, found an ad that is almost definitely a scam, and have reported it to horsemart. To their credit they responded to me very quickly, but they think it is genuine.

There's quite a few scams, its surprising really!

There's always the one going around where the person speaks of the horse as 'it' [to buy rather than sell] and wants to arrange for collection, will pay an excessive amount of money, asks you to write a check back for the extra amount, then somehow manages to bounce the first one [or something like it] and scam your money. They actually do this for selling too. I spoke to one of these scammers who was trying to get me to buy a friesian horse [images seen on google, so stolen] and wanted to deliver the horse by plane, despite they claimed to only be an hour from me

And that one that is about a tragic death of a husband and yet the same ad is seen elsewhere in reverse about the wife.

Have to agree, that listing is deffinatley a scam. Either that or the person is a genuine *****. Proven foal producer after having a foal as a year old? Yeah, ok

Id say they either stole the photo or took a photo of any horse they came across

Good way to expose them if HM dont believe you is to contact the 'seller' and quiz them deeply. If they say anything odd, report back to HM

I don't want to ring it myself - some of the past scams have looked like mobile number but actually been premium rate, and people who have rung them didn't realise till they got their phone bill. I'm glad you also think its a scam, the guy from horsemart made me feel like I was being silly.

Very good point! With all the weird diverting things they can do these days its quite possible!

I guess some peoples english can be bad on some adds, and some europeans are more..expressive than us monotone brits [[]] but then.. theres a difference between language differences and scams..

So yup, it has my vote!!

So often I see Friesian adverts that look very obviously like scams, and not only on HM. I don't understand why it's such a popular breed for scams. In fact there is a Friesian breeder who warns on her website that there are scam adverts on various sites, using HER horses' photos! Must be so annoying for her!

Thats the one lol

I guess they know many people want a long maned black beauty of their own, so offering a very cheap friesian... people cant resist =/
Its just a shame people actually fall for them

There was a black cob advertised as a palomino too! It doesn't give me confidence in the sites that allow it, that's for sure. I mean if we pick these things up in a quick browse, why on earth aren't their staff screening them?
