I like solo combs.

They are handy for very sensitive horses, for example, those who dont take well to mane pulling or like being twitched for mane pulling.

I will say alot of people use them incorrectly and give the mane a scissored effect....they are meant to be used as you would a pulling comb...
Take a small section of mane, back comb it and instead of wrapping the hair around the comb and pulling....you cut ( well you press the handle down;))

They work brilliantly...:D When used correctly!!

Think Im going to get one and give it a go ... but will make sure I do it correctly!

I know a lot of people on here use them and as far as I can gather, are great when used correctly.

A lot of people on my yard use them incorrectly and their horses definatly end up with the scissored effect!!

I am not very good with them - even when attempting to use as Nic describes I end up with it uneven! I now use a mane rake and a pair of scissors cutting into it vertically, it looks fine on Mags like that and saves a lot of pain for the horse with proper pulling. (and a lot of pain for my fingers, ha!)

i really like them too, :)i use one on solo as she can be funny when pulling her mane.
took a while to get used to using it but they are really good once you have used it a couple of times :D

No they should be banned! They make a right mess of the manes and the plaits are never very good.

I've got one, but don't use it that much. I only use it to tidy up Harmonys mane on occasion and it does that job just dandy

I dont like them but when i am being lazy i will use one but i dont use it how you are meant to and i think it looks much better and more natural

i flop the mane onto the wrong side half squueze the handle down so that the hair is kind of razored and just comb the underneath

Dont like them or the effect they give. Cant beat proper pulling IMO.

Thanks for all the replies. Think I will give the solocomb a go and see how it goes, if not then resort back to the traditional method!

I will try and remember to take a pic before and after :)
