Was just talking to Jase about some horses i worked with, and told him about one i met when i was 12 at a therapy center in the north, and it got me thinking. First think of these questions..

Where do you stand on how far 'testing' should be taken? Do you think its ok to test things on animals to a certain degree to 'further' science?

I was being taken for a tour around, and one of the grooms said oh come and meet this boy. The name has escaped me, i just remember him being a big very dark bay gelding. She took off his rug, and explained he had been used in 'electric response' testing. I looked underneath him, and from a small hole in his stomach, protruded 3 wires, just like you would find on the inside of a plug. She didnt go into details of what they did to him, but its not exactly that hard to guess.
Due to the 'effects' of his treatment, his life was considerably shortened. He'd died at some point in the year before i went back.

[Will add if you think this is so utterly cruel like i do too, you can have the number of the place that owned him incase you want further info on him]

I had NEVER seen anything like it, and didnt think it was even humanely possible to do something like that, to a horse. Then i realised, its not humane at all.

I've never seen anything like it since, and i hope that such things dont still happen, although they most likely will do.

Where would you stand on this? Are a few horses for testing god knows what ok, as long as it funds science? Or where would you say that its 100% unneeded?

If anyone has any information on why and how this is justified [if it still happens!] please let me know!

Haven't a clue, this country doesn't seem to care for animals like others, I don't agree with testing on any animals its disgusting, if they want something to test on do it on their self the selfish****.

Testing on animals infuriates me!!!!!

The things that upsets me is so much of the testing is totally unnecessary!

That is vile what they did to the gelding you described, I think if this sort of thing goes on its kept very quiet and only money grabing horse owners who didnt give a ******* about their animals would allow it!

Ive looked into animal testing quite a lot and I cant justify it at all!

If you want to test someting for a purpose (vaccine or whatever) do it on your own species!!

I don't agree with it at all.

I'm on the fence with this.

I can see people's points when they say we wouldn't be so medically advanced and have the ability to save so many people's lives if we hadn't tested things on animals, but then I also think it's not fair because animals cannot speak for themselves.

I hate them testing on any animals, but I do understand it can be for our benefit. But what I don't understand is them testing on animals to prove something we already know like strapping a cigarette to a monkey and making it smoke thus proving smoking is bad!

How would shocking a horse benefit us?

Animal testing is huge part of scientific research. It is done under strict ethics guidelines and it does advance science.

The animals may not be kept or treated in the same way that you would treat your pets but they are not treated 'inhumanely'.

Personally I disagree with testing cosmetics on animals but not particularly with medical studies on animals. I don't know what the horse you mentioned could possibly have been being tested for but maybe it's not quite what you think, maybe the groom that showed you round had got the wrong end of the stick?

I agree, testing beneficial to further science, i guess its just the seemingly unnecessary testing?

Sadly no, they were wires inserted for the purpose of electric :(
