A number of years ago I worked in N.Y at Belmont racetrack. Only came back here after a very bad fall.
There was one horse that was very special to me. A filly called Miss Linda. Won some very good races, at Belmont and Saratoga.
When I first rode her I thought she was going to take off with me. Pulled my arms out every day. The trainer told me she would make a good sprinter. Yet she was not really bred to be one. Breeding ! You never know.
After a few days I thought this is not a sprinter. She is telling lies. Women, lol. One day on the track I took her out and there were not many horses around. We calmly cantered round, really relaxed.
After the trainer said. ''Might be something wrong with her''. That was when I realized what the problem was. She hated kick-back from the track. All she wanted to do was get in front away from the kick-back. Not drop back.
Well after that she ran in races at her true distance and won well.Since leaving the U.S.A I worried about her. Would her next trainer/rider understand her.Would she be safe ?
A few years later at work here I was asked to go to the office. ''Oh crap, what have I done I thought''. Go to the other barn they told me. Not why. When I got there the head person showed me a yearling filly out of Miss Linda. Overjoyed and relieved I was.She had made it to stud in one piece.:D
